As we learned in Forum:Improvement, one of our biggest areas of concern is our calculators, or sometimes lack thereof. We often lack even the most basic calculators, but I want that to change. If we can all get motivated this month to make the calcs great, we can not only equal the quality and breadth of other fansites, but greatly surpass them.

For the first week or so of the month, we can solicit ideas for new calculators from readers, with a link from the Sitenotice. This part I will do immediately unless there is some objection. While this is happening, people can start creating the skill calculators and others that we are missing. One we have enough ideas for calculators we can start working on this as well. In addition, we could make Calculators more visually appealing (perhaps with a portal?)

If you know how to use the calculator script, that's great. Figure out a calc to make and start working on it. If you don't, you can learn it; the script documentation and RuneScape:WikiGuilds/Calculators are quite helpful. If even that is too much for you, you can still help out in many ways, like compiling lists of items for skill calculators.

Once the calcs are up to snuff, we can advertise the hell out of them; Sitenotice, Communitymessages-notice-msg, et cetera. The calculators are of no use if people don't know we have them.

A month from now we can look back on the work we've done and be proud of what we accomplished. Or, we can sit back and hope that someone else will fix our problem (hint: they won't.) ʞooɔ 00:44, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Update Cooknub thought of dung calcs, and I think we should have them too. Also he was too lazy so I are adding this. Dungeoneering calcs will be same format, just on a subpage I guess, like Calc/Dung/(Skill) NEUQHBucket detail.pngrwojy 19:51, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Why not. 222 talk 00:46, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I think I'll look to the person I usually look to to fix this problem. That person would be this undercooked dude. --LiquidTalk 01:01, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Should we finish the new calculator script first? If not we will need to add a method for using the JavaScript workaround for hiscores data since RSHiscores is still not working yet. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 02:38, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Quarenon said that in his opinion it would be best to move forward with the calcs while using this version of the script. The JS workaround would be great. ʞooɔ 04:26, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
Well, I had it working, then Jagex blocked YQL from accessing it... Now I'll try to find another solution, but it seems likely that this is RSHiscore's problem too. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 02:18, April 3, 2011 (UTC)
For now it is working again, maybe YQL was having a problem. See [[Calculators/Energy_calculator]] for an example of hiscores working, please test it to make sure it has no bugs. Make sure your cache is up to date. param = name|Player name||hs|yes is what is needed to require name entry for hiscores, without |yes it is optional. I leave handling of the data to the template, see the above template for a way to support manual and hiscores-based entry. I also sent another update for RSHiscores, it adds a verbose/test mode for me to see where the problem is. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 05:00, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - After I said I could probably make a calculator in C#, I started working on it. I'm currently working on some high score input problems, but got the rest of it mostly complete. Just wondering, how many people and who would help me get it on the wiki if I complete it?Guthix1110 17:02, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Support - I love calculators. Zorak plorak - Talk Hiscores

Support - Then no more RuneScript calcs for me. :D svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 16:44, April 2, 2011 (UTC) Maybe it won't get removed again....

Support - I think we should call May "calc month" though, as this thread probably takes long enough to cover a big part of the month. anyway, I support working on calculators some more, and I will also help people teach people how to make calculators when they ask. I have already started on a guide(free to edit like an article) but it is not complete of course, so any questions could be asked on my talk page. I hope this helps people in making calculators, so the quality and quantity of calculators will rise.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Joeytje50 (talk).

Closed - As it's April, and this is already in the works. It's safe to close this and say that we want to focus on calculators this month. HaloTalk 00:28, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

Scratch that. HaloTalk 03:34, April 5, 2011 (UTC)
Okay I scratched "that", like you requested.XD JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 07:08, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Summoning calc is now done, beginning on thieving >:D --Cakemix 10:44, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

Request closure - Discussion has stopped and we've had some great ideas for calculators in here. 222 talk 11:39, April 15, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - This thread has run its course, and ideas are being held at RuneScape:Calculators/Ideas. Suppa chuppa Talk 23:13, April 23, 2011 (UTC)
