Hi, people of RuneScape Wiki. My name's Cyanlime, and I'm an administrator of the RuneScape Fan Fiction Wiki, one of the RuneScape Wiki's affiliates. The RSFF has changed a lot in the past years, even in recent days we have gone as far as creating a pretty new blue theme and updating the main page.

Our only concern is our recent lack of active contributors. Most days only two or three users make any contributions, and the only new users we recieve seem to be immature people who only wish to vandalise the site.

This brings me to the point of this appeal. A year or two ago, when we were at the peak of our success, with many active contributors making interesting articles every day, the majority of them claimed to have reached the RSFF through a link on this wiki, the RuneScape Wiki. At the time, this link was as easy as hovering the mouse over the RS Wiki's sidebar over the word "Sister sites", and clicking "RuneScape Fan Fiction Wiki". I asked Cook Me Plox over the Wiki's chat about this, and he reccomened I post an appeal in this forum.

Basically, this appeal is requesting more obvious links to the RSFF and the RS Wiki's other affiliates (Runescape Clans, Dark Runescape, etc). This could possibly be implemented in the form of an affiliates bar. Adding something like this would bring many new users into our wiki, and give it new life. I hope the administrators here consider my appeal.

Thanks in advance; -Cyanlime 07:59, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Discussion

Comment - I think RS:IFC is a more appropriate place for this. Ronan Talk 09:04, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

There has not been a message on IFC for seven months, and I don't think that's for affiliates. ʞooɔ 09:22, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Support - We owe it to our affiliates (especially sister wikis that aren't as large as us) to give them a helping hand to reach new visitors and editors. I'm not exactly sure what the specifics would be just yet, but I support finding a way to give them more exposure, whether it's something small on the main page, something on the navigation bar, a bubble every now and then, or something in {{Wiki News}}. ʞooɔ 09:22, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Yes, per Cook. Too bad Monobook side bar doesn't use dropdown menus. On a side note, does this also apply to the FunOrb wiki? User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 10:29, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Support - I temporarily changed to monobook temporarily once just to find a link to the clan wiki, didn't know where else to find it. --Henneyj 22:47, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - I'd be lying if I said I cared much for the "affiliated sites", but don't think we need to be making a spot on the main page, or worse, the already limited navigation bar. There's a big difference between the encyclopedic nature of the runescape wiki from the less serious wikis such as this Dark Runescape Wiki (taking a quick look, I can't even figure out what it's supposed to be, and the main page just makes my eyes hurt). Not trying to be harsh, but it's like placing a link to pornography on Wikipedia's main page. They don't really link up. Hofmic Talk 06:49, August 26, 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I agree that it makes eyes hurt, so we should leave that one out and only link to the serious wikis. (FunOrb, fan fiction, etc.) User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 07:09, August 26, 2011 (UTC)
We are not affiliated with them. ʞooɔ 18:45, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Per Cook. We need to offer our support to these wikis :D. Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 09:32, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

Support - As per Cook and the fact that I was with Cook when he was talking to Cyan, and they do seem that they could use the help as well as other affiliated wikis. Touhou FTW 22:36, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Per cook. So what if they're not as serious in nature as us? They still deserve our support What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 22:43, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Support - They're affiliates, and we should be there for them. But can we please get some discussion on how we're gonna do this? svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 01:44, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Support. Let's help them reach their potential. We call ourselves a fansite, so let's help the other parts of "us" as a community grow. ajr 01:52, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Just add a link to a page called affiliates under the Wiki Community section of the navbar. --Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 16:59, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

To do that we would have to remove one of the links, because of the limit set. Everything there currently would be more important than a link to this. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 13:11, September 3, 2011 (UTC)
Not really, we can have as many links as we possibly want in it. But it would be comparable to link stuffing which web-crawlers dislike and so do I. Ryan PM 07:12, September 6, 2011 (UTC)
The events team link could be removed, they have a link in the message box from main page and Recent Changes. I bet 95%+ of traffic to their page comes from those two pages.--Degenret01 08:12, September 6, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Per other supporters. I can't really see a downside to this. If one of the affiliates gets really out of hand/is abandoned and massively vandalized, we could just remove them. I don't know where to list them though, maybe someplace in the rail? ɳex undique 04:56, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - Fansites will be acknowledged. The discussion to decide how to do so commences immediately. --LiquidTalk 03:58, September 13, 2011 (UTC)

Implementation

As the discussion to help the wiki's affiliates has passed, the time has come to decide the manner in which to do so. The ideas floated around included replacing the Events Team's slot in the "Community" dropdown menu with Affiliates, and somewhere in the rail. --LiquidTalk 04:01, September 13, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Please nothing on the rail. I'll support replacing the Event Team on the community drop down. Hofmic Talk 04:12, September 13, 2011 (UTC)

Bump - Does anyone else have anything interesting to say? --LiquidTalk 14:48, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - It won't be necessary to replace anything in the nav bar once we introduce the new one. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 23:09, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

I know this is probably obvious and I'm just missing something but...New what? ɳex undique 14:56, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
The new navbar I think JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 07:24, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
This one. (: I've suggested affiliates be put under Community on Cook's first example. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 07:37, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

STRONG OPPOSE TO ANY IMPLEMENTATION - First of all, I visited the home page, and all I see is the bureaucracy taking advantage and showing off, including Cyanguy or whatever his name is. Second off, like most epic fail fanfics, the only reason you people have only "vandals" (who are actually trying to help) is because you don't make it friendly and it makes me feel like "Oh god, I'm gonna get banned from this site". Unless you change your stupid site, **** off!!! --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 14:48, September 25, 2011 (UTC)

RS:UTP, for shame, Jeff. Also, this is for all affiliates, not just one. ɳex undique 14:51, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
Lol with the "shame", as I feel no shame because fanfics are always like this... If you tried joining the fanfic how would you feel, not even having something to be welcomed by... --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 14:53, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
So try to help them. Don't yell at them. ɳex undique 14:56, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
And if you didn't want this, you should of opposed before we got to this point. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 14:56, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
Lol, how do you expect me to do so when I was inactive?? Also, if I try to help, they would ban me for "vandalizing pages; block is infinite" --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 15:55, September 25, 2011 (UTC) 15:54, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
You being inactive is irrelevant. The community waits for no one. Word of advice, read their policies and follow them if you want to edit there. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 15:58, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
Ok... who cares... --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 16:17, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
You brought it up, so you must of. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 16:20, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
Man Jeff, I thought you had changed slightly. ʞooɔ 19:52, September 25, 2011 (UTC)
We are not them. If you got problems with them, go fix it with them. Please don't go rant here just because you are angry at someone else. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 10:43, September 26, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Does anyone have some sort of definitive date for when the new navbar will be released? If it takes too long we might want to find some place to put the link in the interim. --LiquidTalk 14:02, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

My guess (non-definitive) is in a couple weeks to a month. I think it's worth the wait. ʞooɔ 16:39, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Since the new navbar seems to be out, I'd like to propose that we put this under one of the community sections (more details to follow as we decide exactly what it would contain) Is everyone fine with putting this in the new navbar? --LiquidTalk 22:31, October 6, 2011 (UTC)

yes dear --Henneyj 22:49, October 6, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - Has been implemented for several hours now. Affiliates project page linked under Community in WikiNav2. Ryan PM 01:04, October 7, 2011 (UTC)
