Forum:Adding Portables Locations
I'd like to add portables locations for active portables to appropriate pages. These would be the current known active locations (and worlds) for the various Portable skilling stations. This is a simple template which is then modified by a js gadget (which pulls the current locations via api).
The locations come from the Portables friends chat (who maintain this google sheet). Note that this is a reputable friends chat, and also where the RuneInfo discord bot gets its info.
The following is the proposed look (due to our csp a live preview is not possible):
Please Support or Oppose adding the gadget (with the courtesy of Portables FC part), however feel free to leave comments on the layout/styling etc. Clarification: When I talked to the fc owners, they were willing to let us use the info if we credited them. For comparison the RuneInfo bot says Portables FC Locations: when it lists the locations.
Support - As nominator.21:43, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Support, but word it as "Locations courtesy of the Portables FC Discord server" to make it clear it's a Discord server and not necessarily the FC. Because of Forum:Discord collaboration, guides and links we work with specialised Discord servers, but because of Forum:Establishing rules for FCs friends chats should not be mentioned at all on the wiki (besides user space or talk spaces) as part of RuneScape:Players don't deserve articles as a friends chat is essentially a player. 22:26, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Comment - What does the star mean next to the world name? It is not clear from the image.22:28, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
- Oh sorry the star is a busy location, the cursor for those is the info/help one (?) and it displays a "busy" tooltip on mouseover. 10:20, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Support - Great gadget. I would suggest to either put a legend of '* = busy' as a static legend instead of a mouse-over, or to parse the '*' to indicate busy directly in the output (e.g., instead of 68* Max Guild, 68 Max Guild (busy)).22:39, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Support - integrating well-used community features with the wiki is generally a good thing13:52, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
Support - Would be extremely useful to have it handy in a webpage instead of a discord server. Would increase site traffic as well.22:14, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
