For those who do not know the Konami code: UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, ENTER. (See Wikipedia:Konami Code)

The code was found at: http://code.google.com/p/konami-js/ Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody!

This isn't a major improvement, but I thought it would be awesome to have the Konami code on the rs wiki. We could have it load the main page, the list of policies, Runescape.com, Special:Random, or any other page. I have the code on my monaco.js and it works smoothly. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody!

I know this is not the best shortcut to anything nor is it short to use, I am just suggesting a feature that a lot of sites have and I believe that an easter egg would be nice considering we have zero, it would put a little humour into the wiki when there is absolutely none outside of user to user interactions. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody!

This does have a use, it breaks us away from the bland feel of Wikipedia and shows that there are humans running this place and those humans have a sense of humour. IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NO POSSIBLE DRAWBACKS AND WILL NOT SLOW DOWN THE WIKI IN ANY WAY. What's wrong with showing that the community that is always here has a heart and willing to give others a laugh or two? IT WILL NOT BE A SHORTCUT, A USELESS CODE, OR WILL CREATE CHAOS FOR THE WIKI. This code is not for you, but the reader, you know those people you never see, hear, or talk to. If you never visited the rs wiki you would think "This is it? A RuneScape version of Wikipedia? ... I'm going to RuneHQ, it's fun there." With this, we may start to show that we can be fun too. No, the Konami code isn't Bounce House fun, but it's a start from something as fun as watching paint dry. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody!

IF YOU ARE GOING TO SAY THAT IT IS USELESS, EXPLAIN HOW IT IS WITHOUT A USE. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody!

Test Konami Code
Click "Preview" then just type the Konami Code (saving is not necessary)

Well, it brings you to a page, it's a fun little feature, we can be added to Wikipedia:List of Konami code websites, I try it on like every site (idk about others), it can be a shortcut to something. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 00:50, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

All we really have to do is gain consensus to add it, then hide this thread away in the hardest, gloomiest depths of our underground hoard bank. We'll wait for many suns and moons to pass over our heads until a user finds it and spams a few pages with "POMGZ GUISE I FOUND A RUNEWIKI EASTER EGG!!!!1." We'll then rollback, warn for spamming, congratulate, and tape them up inside a closet so no one else must know our secret. Repeat the cycle for more wiki-funs. Yeah, ur right. We should never do something "pointless". We should all maintain the high quality and formality of this wiki. Take for example the highly formalized and administrative, "request for bearcatship" process in which, I think, Swiz has taken part in.  :P - [Pharos] 17:38, July 12, 2010 (UTC)
It takes hardly any effort to do an RfBearcatship. Adding this would take a long time to code, and I doubt anyone would find any use of it.   Swizz Talk   Events!   17:43, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

Err, adding a few lines of already-written code doesn't take much time. If it weren't, that shouldn't matter, because if someone is willing to write the code then by all means they should. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 11:59, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Is it really that hard to type it in your URL? And if you really do want it, you can add it to your personal JS, problem solved. HaloTalk 15:24, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

To type what in your URL? And the entire point of the Konami Code is that it's a little easter egg, something fun to discover for the people who know about it. The purpose is not to be a shortcut to somewhere. Users who add it to their own personal JS would gain nothing; there's no surprise. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 11:59, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Strong support - No, wait.. mega support. It's a bit of harmless fun which, while not exactly helping anyone, will amuse us for a short while. Can we change this often? (like once every few weeks or so?) so by pressing it you are taken to the latest article on something contrivertial/ interesting that has just happened. Eg. Climbing boots or Easter/Halloween/Christmas. And the rest of the time to something random. Eg. A YouTube clip of a cabbage singing "never gonna give you up" (which I have yet to find but know is out there somewhere...) - [Pharos] 15:52, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - This actually does hurt us, in both our reputation, and the speed of loading pages. Most of the April Fools stuff we do is slightly ridiculous, but that's on one recognized day out of the whole year. We will be known as the site that actually has implemented the Konami Code, and by association jokes around about everything, diminishing the overall 'trustworthiness' of our articles. On performance, every page on the wiki with everyone who is on the wiki must load this script. The wiki is slow enough without these types of feature bloat, and doesn't need another to add to it. ⁓ Hello71 16:25, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

Also, there is no way under the current system to run JS on a certain page only, only run on all pages with an if on the page name. ⁓ Hello71 01:52, July 13, 2010 (UTC)
The code can be kept under a kilobyte if done properly. That's smaller than the Wikia logo you see in the top left of the page. And hurting our reputation? Come on, that's a stretch. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 11:59, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Support - As long as it doesn't hurt anyone or slow things down noticeably, I don't see why not. Maybe we could only have the code load on the main page, causing less drag time if implemented throughout the entire wiki (I dunno if this makes any sense, I'm not the most tech savvy person). Many large "professional" sites have added this to their sites too such as Facebook and Google, and I'm pretty sure that the majority of users that find the easter egg would enjoy the surprise. Besides, sometimes it's good to have a lil fun Wink Best Shield EVERAnnaLove scarves! 01:00, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

Ssupport - A little bit of fun in my opinion is always a good thing as long as it doesn't harm/annoy the heck out of anyone. Besides, I need a little spice to my otherwise boring brownies at home. BerserkHackr 01:12, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

Strong Oppose - I think keyboard shortcuts should remain to the other wiki purposes. Loading random pages will make this wiki total chaos, and there is no reason to include the Konami code. This is also the Most popular wiki in terms of edits on wikia and if the Konami Code is exploited here then this wiki is more like the Konami Code Filled RS Wiki AHHHH! It's also totally insane.(LOL I already read what the Konami code was when I clicked on this topic O_o WIKIPEDIA ROKKZ!)  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jeffwang16 (talk).

Oppose - There is no real use for this extension/alteration to various scripts, enhances nothing, and is not likely to help anyone (excluding some profound sense of humour?). I do not see a time nor place where this can be used effectively, usefully, and for the betterment of this Wiki. While some might want it because it seems "cool" or don't because it can "wreck" or cause "chaos" to the Wiki is going overboard. It may require a key combination, but what are the chances that someone would hit them in that order and expect a different result (other than what "easter egg" was planned). However, I also state that if this were to be passed I would prefer the ability to disable it (I haven't looked at it that long). Lastly, to the user above me, please sign your comments. Comment - I'd like to run this by everyone again. Evil, could you just make a page to show everyone how to add it to personal JS. If they want it, it's there, if not, nobody's bothered. And the best part-this YG gets closed and pointless arguing stops. HaloTalk 04:49, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

.......Adding it to Personal JS? That defeats the purpose. It is for random viewers/users/people who are either searching for Konami codes, or happen to type it in for the fun of it. Chicken7 >talk 12:22, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - It's a small code with no ill effects and can not be exploited in anyway, big companies have this, why would they add it if they thought it would be bad in anyway, if anything it improves the wiki by adding humour and stopping us from sounding so robotic to those viewing the wiki. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:22, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

That's what other fansites have over us. They are friendly and inclusive with their community. They have weekly/fortnightly events, invite users to participate in site competitions and games, their guides are very down-to-earth and include humour, jokes and tips, they have RuneScape themes and fancy designs, and other things, that may not necessarily "help" the user, but do a significant deal in improving the "warmth" of the site. We're going the opposite direction, getting more robotic and "Wikipedia-like". Chicken7 >talk 02:07, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

Chicken, I would have to disagree. At one point a couple weeks back I was talking in the CC about making wiki event weekly or something along that line. It was soon shot down by Stelercus saying that the wiki is just that, a wiki. That we would not do events because the wiki isn't a community. He also said close to none would show for these type of events anyway. So from one administrator to another it seems your view points do not exactly match of how the wiki is supposed to be viewed. That of a wiki or a wiki+community. xScoobsx Talk Contribs 18:23, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

I vote yes This wiki takes itself much too seriously. Half the people here can't even spell "you're" correctly; give me a break. People who enjoy this kind of thing will react more warmly to this site if implemented, those who dislike it won't know it's here and those who seek out the code just to be negative about it aren't worth considering. Sticks in the mud gonna be sticks in the mud, let's get it on. (wszx) 08:12, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Weak Support - It does not matter, really. I just created a script for it that will redirect the user to the cabbage article to see how it works. We don't just count votes to decide who wins, but on the weight of arguments. Sure a fair amount of people don't like it, but they give no valid reasons for not doing it. If they don't like the idea, then they can just not type it in. Its not exactly that hard to not type in a 11-step key pattern so I don't think they are at any risk of accidentally exposing themselves to any unsavoury konami filth that will corrupt their hard drives and cause all their house plants to wilt. There is no drawback to doing this, and anyone who doesn't like it will never have to be exposed to it. I won't close it as a success because I'm not neutral, but I can stop it from erroneously being closed as a failure. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 21:04, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Tell me then, how does this new feature benefit the wiki? By adding konami code to the wikia automatically makes us community friendly? Mmm, well I found some statistics anyway. A popular content management platform, Drupal (website platform) has some statistics of how many konami code usages there are in a week. (Drupal is 9 years old while being ranked 537th in traffic according to Alexa.) Weekly out of all the page views and hits Drupal gets from all it's clients sites ranges from 10-50 a week. Drupal receives on an average day 2.4 million page views or hits. That is 16.8 million page views or hits a week. (Do note that those are not all unique hits in the meaning multiple come from one person.) Now let's do some simple math. Given the best scenario, 50 hits a week. The percentage of people that visit that site and its clients sites is .000003%. Not saying that these statistics will exactly match that of the wikis, but just throwing it out there of about home many people will be using this cool new feature... xScoobsx Talk Contribs 21:36, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Closed - Konami code will be implemented. As the discussion above uncovered, the opposition was extremely concerned with the fact that this would be "pointless" to add. The point, however, has been discussed extensively; it is to include a interesting and unique easter egg within our website. As Psyco said above, no one is being forced to use the code, and I highly doubt it will negatively impact anyone who visits the wiki. The only outcome I can see is someone visiting and saying "Oh, cool, they have the Konami code on this site!". The argument that this may add something unique to the wiki is far more convincing to me than the argument than this will be "pointless". If people find that they are accidentally typing in the code all the time, or it is negatively impacting their experience on the wiki, I will be more than glad to hear more discussion, but at this time the code will be implemented. --Aburnett(Talk) 21:35, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
