I am proposing that we add a new history section to JMod pages to replace the current previous roles/contributions sections.

I have created a mock here for what it would look like. (Screenshot with css included for convenience) The new section uses the same style as the current update history on all pages, however if this passes I will create new, modified templates for this purpose.

This is what a current page looks like.

Discussion[edit source]

Support - Looks good. Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 08:32, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Comment - Would all the quests guides also need updating to add in the respective contributors, and / or would we have reference links to the citations? Coins 10000.png Yurple Talk Coins 10000.png 09:28, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

The quest infobox already facilitates adding credits; for instance, the infobox on One Small Favour links to Mod Tytn as main developer. There is actually a new {{Databox Credits}} slowly being added to pages that 'should' facilitate it. Once that has been added to all of the quest pages, howevever, the plan is to remove the credits from {{Infobox Quest}}. Lava hawk.png BlackHawk (Talk)    09:43, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, that clears that up! Coins 10000.png Yurple Talk Coins 10000.png 17:40, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Support - I think having a standardised way of having histories of things on the wiki is a good thing, and utilising the concept of the existing UH to add contribution history to JMod pages is a good thing in my opinion. Comment - I really like the idea but its quite a long box with a lot of spacing compared to how easy the current format is to read. I think I'd prefer if there was no line break with the change in a new bullet point - it could just all be on one line? Also think maybe having different colours for the event types would help. Comment - I agree with Iso regarding the line breaks. If we could shorten the spacing between new bullets that would be great. Additionally, I like how on the example page users are able to scroll instead of having a large box. Other than that, I welcome this change. --Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 17:32, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

The large box was purely for demo purposes to show a complete history in one image. The final scrollable size would the same as the update history on other pages. I will mock up something with no linebreaks tomorrow. Lava hawk.png BlackHawk (Talk)    21:40, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Comment - This is a comparison of with and without line breaks. Lava hawk.png BlackHawk (Talk)    14:35, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

It should also be noted that the styling I used for the with line break version is what's currently used for the update history of other pages. If this passes, both update history and JMod histoy should use the same styling for consistancy. Lava hawk.png BlackHawk (Talk)    14:44, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Support without line breaks Per This. --Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 17:10, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Oppose - I'm kind of iffy about this, especially given that it uses the same formatting as update histories on other pages. The current bullet format seems fine to me and I don't really see an obvious reason for it to be changed. We should also consider that formatting it like this kind of adds an expectation to cover every possible contribution (in a similar vein to a patch note for the game), whereas I feel like the current format/section just covers the key facts. I also don't particularly see the need to add "history" for someone's employment - if this is relevant enough to be covered, then it should be written into the opening paragraph or two on the page ("XXX" is a Senior Community Manager at Jagex. They previously worked as a QA Tester until 2012." etc) jayden 17:54, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Propose alternative - Separate contributions and role changes into different sections (role changes can just go in prose). This would make "Contribution" tags and "Contributed to" text superfluous, so we can just use a simple sortable wikitable with Date & Contribution columns instead, which is also even more compact. Support - Like the look, definitely support this, its been a bit messy how it is now. Nuxo (talk) 23:56, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Support alternative - per Habblet, this cleans up the formatting while addressing the employment history concerns. Smithing.pngAescopalus talkCrafting.png 18:21, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
