'''Comment''' - I went ahead and made [[Transcript:Examine/Scenery]]. When this thread was made, Manpaint wasn't aware that scenery pages were being made, so the manual labour for this proposal is already being used for that purpose, indirectly. Pages like the one I made just use SMW so no extra work is required. As I said on Discord, I feel that having these examine pages is useful because some examines contain information not found elsewhere, or contribute to the lore or wordbuilding of RuneScape. I often search through the Transcript namespace when I'm looking to add references to a page, and examines are always excluded from that search, even though they are in the same category as dialogue or books: a verbatim transcript taken from the game. Unfortunately, the examine pages may have to be broken up depending on the number of entities. Anyway, I didn't feel that a SMW page would be the target of opposition, but I'm mentioning it here anyway since it's relevant. {{Signatures/Habblet}} 19:33, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Apology[edit source]

First, I would to apologize for my past behavior. My mental state was not exactly clear, and I know I have caused much chaos in the Discord server in the past. I will try to be a better person with a more righteous behavior.

Intro[edit source]

As you guys know, we have a very expansive wiki thanks to our collective dedication to RuneScape. As far as I know we pretty much got every major aspect of the game documented. There is however something that greatly contribute to RuneScape's identity that is missing on the wiki: objects examine.

We have already the examines for the NPCs and items on the wiki. Aside from a few exception, we don't have pages for individual scenery as this would be unreasonable. While most examines can be examined anytime in-game, there is two major exception: quests and minigames. Developers at Jagex put a lot of love into making theses and I think that it is time for us to document them. Since examining objects are probably not in most player mind, they miss out on jokes, references and hidden lore that can only be accessed one time per account.

Suggestion[edit source]

My proposal is that we put a scenery examines table on the transcript page (or somewhere else) for quests and minigames. Here's an example with the quest The Lord of Vampyrium:

Show example

The following scenery can be examined during this quest:

Object Examine

Gravestone Garmel and Hylandia. I miss you both.
Gravestone Pinwheel, you soared in the sky and our hearts.
Gravestone Haylesse, Sentinel Eternal to our queen. Resolute, she guards.
Gravestone The gravestone is covered in animal scratches and barely legible.
Gravestone May this tombstone serve as remembrance to the icyene legions that fell during the God Wars.

Gravestone To my great stalwart, Dazune. You will be missed.

Gravestone Dessocles and Apherna Hallow, parents to Our Great King, Ascertes. May they rest well together among the icyene.
Gravestone Here lies noble Mazakon, sergeant of the 73rd, caster of demon-ash to the Kharidian winds.
Gravestone Be cleansed in Saradomin's light, quick-fingered Chambour.
Gravestone Rest upon Saradomin's palm, sweet Viridia.

I already suggested a similar idea in the past, but we did not reach a consensus.

Proposed options[edit source]

We could perhaps implement this idea in the following ways:

  • A: Put examines on transcript page in a separate section.
  • B: Make a subpage of transcript pages (ie: Transcript:The_Lord_of_Vampyrium/Scenery).
  • C: Make a subpage of the main article (ie: The_Lord_of_Vampyrium/Scenery).
  • D: Put all examines in one Quest/Minigame scenery page splitted into different sections.

Additional Notes[edit source]

It is important to note that examines are not stored in the game cache but are on RuneScape servers. I personally possess the examines of the following quests that I archived in 2019.

There exist a complete examine dump for OSRS, meaning that for every "vanilla" quests and minigames in OSRS are already covered (everything up to the release of King's Ransom in 2007.

If Jagex is willing to help us with this project, I believe it should be easy for them to get us a list. Finding which objects in what quest is easily findable using the cache.

Discussion[edit source]

Comment - Is this necessary with the creation of non-interactive scenery pages? Lava hawk.png BlackHawk (Talk)    16:26, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Oppose - Per BlackHawk's reasoning - we are in the process of making pages on non-interactive scenery, so a table on the quest page would not be necessary. Oppose - Per above, with interactive and non-interactive scenery pages this seems superfluous. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 08:11, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Comment - I went ahead and made Transcript:Examine/Scenery. Habblet (talk|c) 19:33, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
