For any wiki, 15,000 articles is a great milestone that we should not fail to celebrate. Although the exact time and date that we will get this 15,000th article is still unknown, it'll be soon. I propose a small celebration with the wiki to celebrate.

To be bold and to pass up discussion of a date, I'll propose this upcoming weekend for the event. In some countries this will be a long weekend (Victoria Day, among other holidays) so we should be able to get away with a few extra people around.

Comment - Cool idea, but I'm doubting we will have 15,000 articles by May 22nd. Just throwing in my two cents. HaloTalk 02:19, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

It's just a good time to get everyone together. 02:22, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Sounds fun, I'll try to attend, but I agree with Haloolah >_> Jagex hasn't given us any updates lately to create articles about... *cough* So, I think it might be best to do it maybe next Saturday, 29th. I highly doubt Jagex would have two updates in a row, and so, we'd be even closer to 15,000 by the end of the week. 40 articles could very well be created from one update. (We're at 14,959 currently) Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 02:25, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Should it be limited to just one world? Given the amount of use this forum gets, World 29 could get very crowded.--Zmflavius 02:26, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

^ In addition, World 29 is offline right now O_o Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 02:28, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Articles generally are not created unless there is a major update. May 22 is in three days, and I doubt we're going to have an update in that time, so I really doubt that we'll have 15,000 articles for our celebration. --LiquidTalk 02:56, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Then change the day...it's not a big deal about the actual date. It's a long weekend is all and we could get more people potentially this weekend. Off by 40 articles is not a big significant number compared to the 14,960 we do have... 03:02, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I will attend, it's just I feel it's abit weird having a a Wiki achievement celebrated in-game. A sitenotice would be good enough for me.   Swizz Talk   Events!   06:51, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

I find it quite weird too Lol. Anyways, I'll try to attend. bad_fetustalk 10:11, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I'll do my best to both 1. attend, and 2. make 40 articles Smile I don't find it so daunting; I'm sure I can find quite a few topics. Also, what about we make a countdown? We could use math tags to take away the current nunmber from 15,000 (Eg, "Countdown to 15,000 article milestone: 39 more articles!")Chicken7 >talk 06:57, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Well I had an additional 3...until someone *cough* decided they could be merged into triumvirate. Lol. HaloTalk 11:43, May 20, 2010 (UTC)
Also, if we could convince certain people here, we could add another 50 articles. HaloTalk 11:49, May 20, 2010 (UTC)
I don't think we should do that just to gain the 15,000th milestone. We should go about making and creating articles as we usually do. Just sayin' Lol  Swizz Talk   Events!   15:15, May 20, 2010 (UTC)
I think that really needs to be done (at least with the main article), because they each have different looks/stats. So at least the main one should show that. HaloTalk 05:54, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Support bonz and chickens idea - That sounds pretty good and i reckon we won't get it this weeked.Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 09:45, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Please do not aim for 15k Aiming for a number of articles when we already have thousands of bad ones will just make it worse. We are better off have 1k good articles than 15k crappy ones and stubs. Focus on content, not numbers. The numbers will come when they do. Do not make it a goal.--Degenret01 13:27, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

This topic is about celebrating the milestone; can we not celebrate an achievement? How are we supposed to improve articles like this? Some articles/pages are in urgent need of a rewrite, such as many quest pages, which have already been proposed to be improved. Chicken7 >talk 13:45, May 20, 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Degen. We should not start on an article-creating rampage just for the sake of reaching the milestone.  Tien  20:38, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

BST to GMT - can someone confirm that BST is one hour ahead of UK/England/GMT Time? If so, that'll be 9:00pm UTC/GMT? I'm so confused! Can someone explain to me what the time will be for England?

I googled it, it seeös that bst = gmt+1, making the time 19:00 gmt bad_fetustalk 16:00, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Uhhhhhh... W29's been down for a few days now (not sure if it's back up yet), so, we may need a backup world. (davelopo) 20:34, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

I can't come, if you're doing it on Saturday. ShinyUnown T | C | E 20:50, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - From the second I saw this I thought exactly what Degen said: There should be no rush to get to 15k articles. There's always those few people who'll create anything they can find just to say "Oh, I created the 15k article lololol." It's just another article in my opinion, a mention in the News Feed seems fine. Regardless, if people want to celebrate, then by all means do so for an article. Zaros symbol.pngChaos Monk Talk SignCoins 250.png 00:24, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose entire idea - While it is a great feat to meet 15k articles, I feel this whole process should not be rushed. You've planned for a celebration to happen, yet there are still a few articles to go before we even meet it. It would be extremely silly to celebrate something we didn't meet. Also, making such 'deadline' encourages less-than-ideal articles to be made (aka stubs). Farming cape (t).png Lil cloud 9 Talk 06:10, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Comment We have now passed 15 000 articles. Last time I checked it was 15 002. 222 talk 09:44, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Congratulations!! We made it! Now we have 15,000 articles. Thanks User:Chicken7 to notify me in IRC about this. willwill Talk 09:47, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I'd just like to comment on both reaching the milestone earlier than expected, and the choice of which article to be the 15,000th. One, I had been planning a large-scale creation of articles about Shop types for awhile, so it was not stunt to reach the milestone as fast as we can. Two, users in the cc thought it'd be a bit of fun if we specifically chose an article to be milestone-reacher. I suggested Dragon ore, and we only discussed it for a matter of minutes. I'd also been meaning to create that article for awhile, as it is a confirmed future update. I know some people are going to be randomly annoyed at me... Chicken7 >talk 09:56, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Very disappointing article for the 15,000. For a start it's for an object/item that doesn't exist. And not only that but the article is wrong. It states that the dragon ore and bar is confirmed in development but the source just says that it will "probably" exist at some point in the future. In a 2009 Q&A, Mod Fetzki stated that there is no dragon equipment currently under development. http://devblog.runescape.com/view_post.ws?post_id=30 shame --Gold ore.png Mercifull UK serv.svg (Talk) 10:57, May 22, 2010 (UTC)
Umm...that link doesn't state that there is NO dragon equipment under development. Also, fix the article if it's wrong instead of complaining about it. And finally, why does it matter which article is 15,000. We have plenty of impressive articles, and most of them don't start out

amazing. HaloTalk 11:12, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - 20:00 BST is 5 hours ahead of EST, meaning it's at 8:00PM BST, which is 3:00PM EST, not 5:00pm....and I won't be able to make it due to a quick change in my work schedule. But, the time template is wrong.

If so, then the gathering should take place in approximately 10 minutes. OMG!  Tien  18:52, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Results

Now that we have 15000 articles, I would just like to say that I am extremely miffled by the whole process. Many of the articles that were created were extremely subpar articles. Take a look at the RfD page. The 15000th article, Dragon ore, is a stub article that consists of speculation.

I can't help but ask, what are our priorities? Get 15000 articles fast or create decent articles? I would much rather have the latter be true... I just get the feeling that these stubs were hastily created to reach the deadline. --LiquidTalk 18:44, May 23, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with teh helm. I think that our focus here should be on quality, and not quantity. Great, we have 15,000 articles. I could import 15,000 pages from Wikianswers, and I still wouldn't have a great wiki (which I feel this one is, or at least close to it). What we should be doing is proposing some sort of standard for articles, not measuring how many there are. Also, I'm not proposing anything right now, and especially not saying that all sub-par articles be deleted :S Ajraddatz Talk 22:10, May 23, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - It's been done. We delete the extraneous ones, get over it, and stop giving certain users a hard time about it. HaloTalk 22:14, May 23, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - This thread was about an event, not the actions of the community members. As the event date is over (and the event fell through) I think it's best to close this, rather then keep it open as a medium for discussion other then the purpose of its intentions.
