Engram

Engrams are items used in the Memorial to Guthix Distraction and Diversion. An engram is a stone-like charm that contains a recording (referred to as an 'echo') of a past event involving the late god Guthix. Each engram provides a unique benefit to the Divination skill but must be charged before use.

In order to be able to collect engrams the player must first complete Orla Fairweather's Memorial to Guthix tutorial. The initial tutorial (before prestiging) is a 6-step process which involves receiving the first engram from Orla, charging it, returning it to her, populating a plinth, and interacting with the butterfly statue. After the initial engram has been recovered this activity has the player scouring Gielinor finding, charging, then turning in the engrams to Orla.

Twelve different engrams can be found scattered in various places across Gielinor. When an engram is picked up a Guthixian butterfly will appear; catching the butterfly will grant experience in the player's lowest skill. Engrams must be charged with various quantities of divine energy of different types, along with memory strands. The amount and type of energy needed along with the number of memory strands required can be checked by clicking on the uncharged engram using the Check action. Once charged, an engram is to be turned in by using the engram's Teleport action to teleport to the memorial then speaking with Orla.

Once a charged engram is added to the pool of energy, the echo contained within can be displayed on one of the plinths inside the memorial and its benefit can be activated at the fountain of energy at the west end of the pool. Checking an empty echo plinth will bring up a table that shows which have been collected and which have not been collected. A mouse-over of each Echo Selection reveals a hint as to its location.

Memorial to Guthix also works on a prestige system, where the engrams can be reset for additional experience and will need to be found and charged again. The first prestige will cost a total of 2,280 strands, the second prestige will cost 3,192 strands, and all subsequent prestiges will cost 4,104 strands. Guthixian butterflies will only appear the first time an engram is picked up during each prestige; players cannot pick up and destroy engrams to continuously spawn Guthixian butterflies.

  • update 9 January 2017 (Update):
    • Memorial to Guthix added to game, adding 12 engrams - items found around the world which will display key memories from the life of Guthix, after he had ascended to godhood.
      • Speak to Orla Fairweather at the site, who'll set you on the path to hunting down the engrams. Charge them, then return them to the memorial to activate echo plinths, which give you Divination XP and oodles of Guthixian lore - showing a side of Guthix that you've never seen before - plus some awesome Divination-focused rewards.
      • There are a range of persistent buffs and bonuses available from activating the engrams. These include a removed cap on chronicles, increased XP from divine locations, chronicle fragments replaced with Guthixian butterflies, and more. You can have one of these active at a time to begin with, and can switch between them once a week (after the Wednesday reset) at the memorial site's fountain.
      • Collect all 12 engrams and you can reset the memorial and start again. This prestige mechanic rewards you with a chunk of Divination XP, and unlocks the ability to have an additional reward active (4 maximum) and a butterfly wing cape override with an increasingly elaborate appearance.
