The electrified trap is an Invention device that is a part of the cave goblin technology tree. It is a consumable variant of a box trap with a higher rate of successful catches. It has 25 charges and charges will not be consumed for failed attempts to catch a creature. It is not possible to cast Crystallise on an electrified trap. Electrified traps cannot be baited or smoked, but using them bypasses any baiting requirement that the hunted creature might have. When catching skillchompas, only one charge is consumed per catch, independent of how many are caught at a time. These traps will work for any creature that can be caught with a standard box trap. Despite similar mechanics, these traps cannot be used in place of marasamaw plants to catch jadinkos.
Additionally, the electrified trap's ability to bypass baiting requirements can potentially be detrimental to a player hunting grenwall, which are normally exclusively caught with raw pawya meat-baited traps, or with no bait at all with the medium Tirannwn achievements completed. By removing bait's interaction with the trap, the pawya that spawn nearby will also be caught in addition to the grenwall, thereby consuming charges and decreasing the trap's usefulness compared to regular box traps for the player, as the latter would in effect filter out the pawya and require much lower maintenance. This can be circumvented by hunting grenwalls on Anachronia where there are no nearby pawyas.
When the last charge is used, the following message is shown: "You tried to pick up the electrified trap but it crumbles into useless parts."
Discovering this device requires the player to have the blueprint unlocked from the cave goblin technology tree and level 70 Invention. Success in creating the blueprints earns 52,591 Invention experience.
The Hunter's Catalyst fragment and Combined Catalyst fragment will also reset electrified traps upon failure to catch a creature.

- patch 31 May 2016 (Update):
- Corrected an issue where electrified box traps could regain lost charges.
- Electrified trap used to require 2 stunning components on its creation, and it would have had only 15 charges on it, but this was altered on 5 September 2016 to rebalance the usefulness of this item.
