Dragonstone dragons are high-level Slayer monsters requiring level 95 Slayer to kill. They are part of the gemstone dragon group and are the weakest dragon of this type.

A total of six dragonstone dragons are located in the gemstone cavern under the Shilo Village mine. They require the completion of the hard Karamja achievements in order to access them in the gem rock cavern underneath. In order to pass the barrier to confront them, players are also required to sacrifice a number of uncut dragonstone, uncut onyx, or uncut hydrix gems, with each gem allowing the player to kill a certain number of dragons within their respective chamber. A maximum of 60,000 kills may be stored.

If the player is on a Slayer task for gemstone dragons, however, they may enter the gemstone cavern area without the need for charges; if the player has already donated gems for charges, the charges will not be consumed while on-task.

Locations[edit | edit source]

They may also spawn as part of a flash mob if the player has a combat level of 40 or higher.

Strategies[edit | edit source]

Dragonstone dragons attack primarily with magic, although they will use both magic and melee if within melee range.

In addition to the typical dragonfire attack, dragonstone dragons will periodically use their special attack, which sends a purple trail to the players initial spot (similar to glacors) which erupts into a 3x3 square, dealing a large amount of magic damage (upwards of 3k) and draining the timer on any antifire potions currently in use by 1/2. Protect/deflect from magic will decrease the damage, but will not negate the secondary effect. If standing within melee distance of them, they will not use this special attack.

Players may use the Resonance ability to heal from their special attacks. However, it will reduce the duration of antifire potions regardless. Similarly, Devotion in combination with Protect from Magic or Deflect Magic may be used to block the attack's damage, but the attack will still reduce the timer of any active antifire potions. Therefore, doing so is typically not recommended unless the timer on the antifire potion is already very, very low and the healing is badly needed. If you have sirenic equipment and the Soul Split curse, you can heal off the infrequent dragonfire damage and Resonance the special attacks to effectively fight dragonstone dragons without the use of antifire protection or food.

It is possible to kill dragonstone dragons with an aggression potion active and while not paying attention to the possible special attacks rather safely by placing a dragonstone dragon soul in their own Slayer dungeon and standing on top of the dragon's spawn point. This makes it likely that the dragon targets the player before it gets out of melee distance, and thus prevents it from using its special attacks.

If using an extended super antifire potion, the special attack will not reduce the antifire potion timer, and thus can be tanked.
