Free-to-play Melee training[edit | edit source]

For higher levels (80+ Attack, Strength, and Defence recommended), deadly red spiders provide some of the best melee training for free players, yielding over 200,000 Attack , Strength or Defence exp/hour (assumes 500 kills/hour), when killing them in the Varrock Sewers or Karamja Dungeon. Use of the Revolution combat mode is strongly recommended. Below is a guide for training melee at deadly red spiders:

The exact optimal inventory composition will differ based on how much food you require; find what works for you.

It is entirely possible to go without food with high stats and proper use of Sacrifice and Rejuvenation.

Method[edit | edit source]

Starting from Varrock East Bank, travel north, climb down the manhole to enter the Varrock Sewers, and travel all the way to the end until you see the deadly red spiders. Once you arrive, hop worlds if there are two or more players already there. An alternative location would be in the Karamja Volcano Dungeon, although there are only 4 spiders there.

Before you start attacking, take a sip of your Strength potions and activate Ultimate Strength.png Ultimate Strength. Attack the deadly red spiders with Revolution but also manually activating your abilities as follows:

  • Sacrifice if you have it unlocked. Use this ability to deliver killing blows. Consistently healing from this ability will significantly reduce the need to eat or use Rejuvenate.
  • Slaughter when the deadly red spider has full health. Make sure you walk onto the square of the deadly red spider as you are using the ability. This forces the spider to move, so it takes 3x damage for 4 of the 5 hits. This means the total damage will be 13x the original hit, so if you initially hit at least 3400 / 13 = 262, you should move on to the next spider, as the damage-over-time will kill the first spider.
  • Assault and Destroy when the deadly red spider has full health. Wait for a new kill if necessary.
  • Forceful Backhand when the better thresholds abilities are on cooldown.
  • Rejuvenate when needed (switch to your Rune defender and attack the deadly red spiders until Rejuvenate fully completes, then immediately switch back to your Rune mace + 3/Rune warhammer + 3).
  • Eat food when you have low health and cannot otherwise heal with Sacrifice and Rejuvenate.

As you consume potions and free up inventory space, you can pick up the red spiders' eggs for a small amount of money. When you have consumed all of your potions, return to the bank and repeat.

Free-to-play Ranged training[edit | edit source]

For very high levels (recommended 90+ Ranged and 80+ Defence), Deadly red spiders provide a great source of Ranged experience, giving about 180,000 Ranged exp/hour at level 99 Ranged. Use of the Legacy combat mode is recommended, although Revolution combat mode would be able to go longer without banking, albeit with significantly more effort.

With 99 Ranged and 99 Defence, players using Legacy will need to bank approximately every 45 minutes.
