Crimson skillchompas are level 89 hunter creatures found just south of the Desert Quarry Hunter area, in the western part of the Kharidian Desert. They are caught using box traps and give 309 Hunter experience each when caught. Once caught, crimson skillchompas transform into stackable crimson skillchompas, which can be wielded to give benefits while skilling. As crimson skillchompas are located in the desert, players wishing to catch them are advised to bring protection from the desert heat effect. Recommended items include an enchanted water tiara, or waterskins and runes for the Lunar spell Humidify or Tome of frost. Alternatively, one can finish the Crocodile Tears quest for desert heat immunity.

Up to six skillchompas can be caught per trap, which scales with Agility level. From level 94 Agility, multiple are always caught.

After completing the player-owned farm tutorial, players may obtain crimson chinchompa farm animals. As with all chinchompas, protean traps do not have a chance to give players this variant of the chinchompa.

Crimson skillchompas can be attacked and explode when killed. If the attacking player is next to the skillchompa when it explodes, they will be pushed back 1 square and dealt 20 life points of ranged damage (this cannot be mitigated by Prayer). Players hunting these skillchompas should take care, as clicking on one will cause the player to attack it. A player can avoid this entirely by equipping a Ranged or Magic weapon without ammunition, or by selecting the "Hidden" option under the NPC Attack Option Settings.
