Complete tome detail.png

A complete tome is rarely obtained from excavating at excavation hotspots and material caches. It may also be obtained from ancient caskets. Complete tomes can be studied at the study desk upstairs in the Archaeology Guild, which grants Archaeology experience based on level. In addition, having at least tier 2 luck increases the chance of obtaining one.

Multiple tomes can be owned, but they cannot be stored in the bank. Boosts can not be used to gain increased experience.

Warning[edit | edit source]

Use 'Bank all' or 'Take all' buttons to claim the tomes from an ancient casket and do not click the 'X' in the corner to close the reward window. 'X' will bank all rewards, but since complete tomes cannot be banked, they will be lost temporarily until you open another ancient casket.

If 'X' is pressed and the tomes are gone, lobbying or logging out and back in will return the complete tomes to your inventory.

Formula[edit | edit source]

The formula to determine the chance of receiving a complete tome was revealed during the 30 April 2020 Jagex data livestream. The effect of having at least tier 3 luck is unknown and has not been incorporated into the current formula.

For example, a player with level 101 Archaeology excavating Culinarum debris, a level 100 excavation hotspot, would have a 1/1,244 [1/(250,000/201)] chance of receiving a complete tome upon every successful material gathered or artefact discovered.

Cost per tome[edit | edit source]

The value of a tome can be calculated because they can indirectly be given from certain Archaeology collections. These collections always grant a tetracompass piece, meaning that the total value of materials and chronotes are the cost of one tome. Note that this value is not the cost of creating a tetracompass alone; one tetracompass produces on average 1.5 tomes.

Update history[edit | edit source]

The update history project is a work-in-progress – not all updates to this topic may be covered below. See here for how to help out!
  • hotfix 1 April 2020:
    • The complete tome can no longer be banked, and banked books have been placed in the players' inventory.
  • update 30 March 2020 (Update):
    • Added to game.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Complete tomes could originally be banked, but in a hotfix on 1 April 2020, players received a message telling them that all existing books have been placed into their inventory: Your Archaeology Complete tome have been removed from your bank and placed in your inventory to prevent saving them for greater experience later on.[sic]
