City Quests are small miniquests assigned by citizens of Menaphos. They involve completing three tasks, such as fetching quantities of various items and killing certain monsters.

Players may speak to Urluk in the Merchant district for hints on where to find active City Quests, as well as reminders of their current active City Quest. Citizens with an available City Quest will have the symbol of Menaphos above their head and can be found even without Urluk's guidance via the world map. A faded quest start marker appears on the city map for active quests.

Similar to skilling event currencies that are earned automatically (e.g. clockwork pieces), new City Quests become available after players complete a certain number of five-minute playtime triggers.[2] Intervals between City Quests get longer as more are completed, with the number of five-minute triggers needed starting at one and capping at seven (35-minute minimum timegate). The exact triggers are currently unknown, but various skilling activities qualify. It is likely that anything that triggers five-minute playtime triggers also work when attempting to get new City Quests. This includes skilling activities that are related to Menaphos (e.g. skilling in the VIP area or the Worker District) and ones that are not. The Shifting Tombs minigame and other activities are also possibilities.

Types of quests[edit | edit source]

There are a number of different types of City Quests, each comprised of three tasks. Each task involves either delivering a number of a specific item or slaying an assigned number of a specific monster. The type of City Quest and nature of the component tasks can be determined from the opening dialogue when the task is first set.

Kill desert goats 8-37 5,290 Slayer experience
Kill desert lizards 25-60 Corrupted lizards in the Sophanem Slayer Dungeon will also count. 3,320-6,912 Slayer experience
Kill desert snakes 24-37 These may be found within genie crevice just west of Nardah (Spirits of the Elid quest required). They may also be found under the cliffs near the Smoke Dungeon entrance in the Kharidian Desert west of Pollnivneach. 4,924-6,749 Slayer experience
Kill exiled kalphites 23-37 NPC will refer to plague exiled kalphites, though it is exiled kalphites that must be killed. Corrupted kalphite guardian in the Sophanem Slayer Dungeon will not count as they are considered kalphites and not exiled. 5,130-7,170 Slayer experience
Kill guards 3-34 These may be found in the Desert Mining Camp. This requires a metal key. 1,140-7,752 Slayer experience
Kill kalphites 23-36 Corrupted kalphite guardians or marauders in the Sophanem Slayer Dungeon will also count. 4,761-7,182 Slayer experience
Kill locusts 39-96 These may be found in Sophanem. 13,645-14,409 Slayer experience
Kill Menaphite Thugs 23-37 These may be found in Pollnivneach. 5,244-8,436 Slayer experience
Kill mummies 24-40 Killing mummies with fire spells will not count. 3,672-6,120 Slayer experience
Kill plague frogs 23-37 These may be found in Sophanem. 4,457-7,170 Slayer experience
Kill rowdy slaves 2-4 These may be found in the Desert Mining Camp. This requires a metal key. 547 Slayer experience
Kill scarabs 24-37 Scarab swarms, corrupted scarabs, scarab akh, scabaras mages, scabaras lancers, scabaras rangers, and scarab larvae will also count, but some scabarites and small scarabs will not. 4,925-5,382 Slayer experience
Kill scabarites 23-37 Scabaras lancers, scabaras rangers, scabaras mages, scarab akhs, scarab larvae, scabaras locusts, locust lancers, and locust rangers in the Scabarite Hive dungeon will also count, but scabarites in the Sophanem Dungeon will not. 7,056-7,344 Slayer experience

Besides experience, completing a task in a city quest which involves killing monsters offers a chance for 2-4 Slayer points. Fully completing a city quest awards 2,000 reputation with the aligned faction and either a small, medium, or large Menaphite gift offering, with the distribution being heavily biased towards the latter two. There is also a chance to receive either the idocrase or hauyne jewels upon completion if not already owned.

Thank you. As excessive as it may have seemed, it was necessary!

Task 2: Delivery

NPC:
Now that he can sleep peacefully, let us talk about my daughter.
Ever since she was a little baby, she has been unable to sleep without [item].
Player:
Right. Why [item]?
NPC:
Yes, I know it's a bit strange, but [item] were the only thing that would help her drift off.
So, please, if you could get [item] I would greatly appreciate it.
NPC:
Have you found [item] yet?
Player:
I have the [item].
NPC:
Excellent, my daughter will be able to sleep like a baby once again!

Task 3: Delivery

NPC:
Now, my youngest son, he recently lost his teddy bear.
Player:
You want me to find him a new teddy bear?
NPC:
No, no. I may not look like it, but I am quite skilled in crafting. I plan to make him a new one if you could get me the materials.
Player:
What do you need?
NPC:
I need [item] to make it out of.
Player:
...
NPC:
...
So, could you get [item] for me?
NPC:
Did you bring [item]? This teddy bear won't build itself!
Player:
Yes, I have brought the [item].
So how do you make a teddy bear from...
No. I think it's better to not know.
NPC:
Excellent! I'll get right to work!

Player:

Task 1: Slayer

NPC:
The magnificent Crondis has been angered by [monster]. She requires a blood sacrifice and a tribute.
First, go and kill [monster].
Player:
What have [monster] done to anger the almighty Crondis?
NPC:
You don't need to know. Will you go kill them?
NPC:
Have you vanquished the [monster] for Lady Crondis?
Player:
Yes, I have slaughtered the [monster].

Task 2: Delivery

NPC:
Praise be to Crondis!
Now the pitiful wretches have paid for their transgressions, we require a burnt offering.

Player:

NPC:
The first step towards appeasing Crondis is traditionally a burnt offering of [item].

Finally, as per tradition, Crondis requires a liquid offering to be poured into the Elid.

Player:
Yes, I have the [item].
NPC:
Aren’t you industrious! Good job.

Task 1: Delivery

NPC:
Those pesky [monster] are eating my crops!
Player:
Well, that is a problem. Anything I can do to help?
NPC:
Yes, I have a plan.
I believe if we coat the crops with some sort of disgusting mixture it will deter them.
Player:
Yeah, that seems reasonable.
NPC:
First of all I need [item]. Could you get those for me?
NPC:
Have you got the [item]?
Player:
Yeah, got the [item]!
NPC:
Excellent, the [item] will make a great base for the concoction!
Now, let's think about what we will need next.

Task 2: Delivery

NPC:
What we need is some [item], dropped from [drop source].
Player:
How about [item]?
NPC:
Perfect! I think if you get me [item] we are good to go.
NPC:
Have you found [item] yet?
Player:
I have the [item].
NPC:
Well, now we can finish our deterrent.

Task 3: Slayer

Player:
Is something wrong?
NPC:
While you were gone, the [monster] came back and ate even more of my crops!
This deterrent is not going to be enough! I need you to send a message that nobody messes with my crops!
Player:
Uh... Well, we haven't tried the det-
NPC:
Forget the deterrent! I need you to kill [monster] for me!
NPC:
Did you deal with the [monster]?
Player:
Yes, your crops should be safe now.
NPC:
At last, my crops are safe.

Player:

NPC:

While you were off gathering [item], I remembered that my cart has a broken wheel, and I need to get it fixed before I can even begin think about making a delivery.
The wheelwright in the port district doesn't accept gold coins as payment, and I'll need to trade goods with her to get my wheel fixed.
Player:
What do you need to trade her?
NPC:
In order for me to get the wheelwright to fix my wheels, I often need to trade her a load of [item].
Player:
Right. Why [item]?
I have no idea. Who am I to ask why a wheelwright needs [specific use of item]?
If you could please fetch me [item], then I will make sure to reimburse you for your time.
NPC:
I'm hoping to get my wheel fixed sooner rather than later, [player name]. Do you have [item]?
Player:
Yes, I have the [item].
NPC:
I am grateful. Helping me with the [item] and now some [second item], I appreciate it.

Task 3: Delivery

NPC:
It seems like my cart will meander through the sand for many more days to come.
Now all that is left is to get some supplies for the journey.
Player:
No kidding. What do you need?
NPC:
I have everything I need except for [item].
If you could please obtain [item] for me, then I can be on my way.
NPC:
Do you have [item]? I'm a bit pushed for time.
Player:
Yes, I have the [item].
NPC:
I am grateful. The [item] are packed and ready to go, and now I have some [item] for the journey.

NPC:
I've had a brilliant idea for a new product I can sell in the city. It is so brilliant that it would be a bad move to share with you what it is...yet.
I could tell you if you helped me out by sourcing what I'll need to create my invention!

NPC:
How are you getting along with getting me [item]?
Prayer:
Yes, I have the [item].
NPC:
Just the ticket!

Task 2: Delivery

NPC:
Now I have the base items, I need to add a few more components to complete my product!

NPC:
I would need...some [item].
Player:
Some [item]? But why?
NPC:
And reveal my trade secrets? No, [player name], you won't get that knowledge out of me!
Don't worry. If you get me [item], then I will make sure to reimburse you for your time.
NPC:

Player:

NPC:
My project is nearing completion! You've been so helpful!

NPC:
My invention is almost ready!
There is one more type of component I need to finish this amazing invention of mine!
Player:
Please do tell...
NPC:
It is none other than...[item].
If you do me this last favour, I will be rich! And you can reap the benefits, too!
NPC:
Ah, [player name]! Please tell me you have managed to acquire [item]?
Player:
Yes, I have the [item].
NPC:
Brilliant! As brilliant as my invention, I must say! Time to put it together!
Player:
So... What's that amazing invention you came up with, then?
NPC:
Ah, the fruit of my hard labour, the apple of my eyes, my newest creation, the thing that will revolutionise the life of adventurers around the world...for which I have yet to come up with a good name for!
Wait, it's really not wise to talk to you about it until the prototype is fully working... I cannot risk having you steal my idea and getting it manufactured somewhere else for less.
Player:
Thanks for the vote of confidence.
NPC:
I hope I haven't offended you. Please, [player name], accept this reward as token of my appreciation.

Even alone a [monster] is intimidating.

    • When completing a Menaphos city quest for killing a specific creature, killing any creature that is not part of the current task will no longer produce the message "you have killed enough [Creature killed] for [person]".

    • The Menaphos City Quest to retrieve Copper now directs you to a site which has copper.
