This article is about the Runecrafting altar. For other uses, see Chaos Temple.
Crafting chaos runes

The Chaos altar may be found in level 9 Wilderness just north of Edgeville Monastery. It is used to craft chaos runes from pure essence, providing 8.5 Runecrafting experience. Unlike other Runecrafting altars, the player must traverse a 4-tiered maze in order to reach the actual altar, though this may be avoided by use of the Abyss.

Access[edit | edit source]

As with most other runecrafting altars, it can be accessed via the Abyss. Players could also enter its ruins by using a chaos talisman or an Omni-talisman. Players could also simply click on the ruins while wearing a chaos tiara, Omni-tiara, a wicked hood imbued with any of the above, an Omni-talisman staff, or a chaos talisman staff.

Currently, the fastest way to get there is to use the Wicked hood's teleport, which can only be used 2 times daily, or 3 if all the Wicked robes have been purchased from the Runespan. The second fastest way is to break a chaos altar teleport tablet. Both of these methods teleport the player just outside of the altar. The wicked hood can be obtained by talking to Tam McGrubor, and the teleport tablets by playing the Great Orb Project.

Additionally, players can use the chaos portal in the Tunnel of Chaos to get to the Chaos Altar without travelling through the Wilderness. It places the player at the third level. From there, the player should go east and then clockwise to the west ladder to reach the 4th level. After that, they should head east to reach the altar.

Experience[edit | edit source]

The maximum limit for crafting Chaos runes in one visit is 506. This would be achieved by having 74 Runecrafting, giving a 2x bonus, and carrying 253 essence to craft (23 in the normal inventory along with 48 in the 5 sizes of Runecrafting pouches, along with 175 claimed from the wicked hood (if all the Wicked robes have been purchased), and 7 from any abyssal summoning creature). The maximum possible experience is 4,301 obtained while doing the above.

Tiaras[edit | edit source]

A chaos tiara may be created at this altar by having a chaos talisman and a normal tiara in your inventory. The player must use the tiara on the altar. Doing so will earn Runecrafting experience.
