Camel Warriors (also known as Ugthanatos) are slayer creatures that require level 96 Slayer to kill. Their prize drop is the camel staff, a level 85 staff which provides unlimited fire runes.

According to The Ugthanatos, Akthanakos created them to deal with his nemesis, Enakhra. He expressed gladness at the results, as they had the traits he desired while the arms and hands he gave them allowed them to be highly skilled in combat.

Locations[edit | edit source]

They can be found on the island east of Sophanem, which is accessed via stepping stones (no Agility level needed) near a large group of crocodiles. There is a gate in the eastern wall of Sophanem that allows easier access from the city.

The area is affected by desert heat.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]

A Camel Warrior possesses 20,125 life points and uses standard ranged and magic attacks. It will launch saliva as a ranged attack and conjure a dust tornado with its staff as a magic attack. The ranged attack deals immediate damage once the camel finishes spitting, despite being shown as a projectile. Camel Warriors themselves do not use spells from the ancient spellbook; their mirages do this instead. When a camel is attacked, it will almost immediately split into three mirages, though this appears to be fairly random. Dealing more than 4,000 in a single hit when initiating combat will prompt the camel to immediately split.

The mirages use magic attacks and spells from the ancient spellbook. Smoke spells reduce accuracy, shadow reduces damage, blood heals for 5% of the damage dealt, and ice binds for ten seconds. Each mirage has 11,250 life points, and has a max hit of about 1,000. The blood mirage heals its fellow mirages for up to 900 life points for each attack it performs regardless if it hits or not, indicated as a green projectile. The healing only applies to the mirages that it was summoned with, so it will not heal mirages of another camel. The shadow mirage has an adrenaline bar over its head, which fills as it attacks. When completely filled, it will launch a curse at the player that drains a considerable amount of the player's current prayer points. It can also perform Weaken on the player. The smoke mirage has the ability to cast Confuse on the player.

It is recommended to kill the shadow mirage first and then the blood and smoke mirages. Since the mirages can stack heavy damage, kill the shadow mirage immediately before binding the blood mirage and going under it. This prevents the blood mirage from healing its fellow mirages and allows the smoke mirage to be killed quickly. Experienced players may also kill the blood mirage while standing under it.

The camel will appear again at the location of the last mirage defeated.

Throughout the fight with the main camel, a bar will appear above its head, similar to the shadow mirage. When this bar fills before mirages are deployed, the camel will perform its sandstorm attack. After the mirages are defeated, it may use the shadow mirage's special attack instead of the sandstorm attack. The bar fills considerably faster before the mirages are deployed, and fills slowly after the mirages are defeated. The sandstorm attack is also utilised should the camel be stunned or bound.

The sandstorm is indicated with the camel slamming its staff on the ground to generate a dust tornado. When used, the camel will launch three sandstorms, one every few ticks and at the player's current position at the time. Each sandstorm lasts for roughly 7–10 seconds. The sandstorm deals 50 hard typeless damage every tick (every 0.6 seconds), adding the previous damage as additional damage on subsequent hits - the second hit would deal 100 damage, and the third would deal 250 damage. This can essentially kill the player if they accidentally run into a tornado that has persisted for a while, though they only have range of 1x1 AoE which makes them fairly easy to avoid.

Camel Warriors have an unusual weakness mechanic. While they are weak to crushing attacks (melee) themselves, their mirages are weak to thrown attacks (ranged). Since you will be hit with accuracy reducing debuffs, it is possible to miss even with overload and Desolation/Malevolence if using one combat style. For this reason, it may be preferable to bring two combat styles, and use hybrid armour if doing so. Otherwise, bring the strongest equipment of the combat style used.

Drops[edit | edit source]

The average Camel Warrior kill is worth 15,921 coins.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • If a player's initial attack against a Camel Warrior misses, it will not retaliate.
  • The artwork's portrayal of the Camel Warrior smoking may be a reference to the Camel cigarette brand.
  • The name "Ugthanatos" is a portmanteau of ugthanki and Θάνατος (thanatos), meaning "death" in Greek.
  • Prior to 28 November 2016, the Camel Warrior's mirages did not give combat experience upon death.
  • As of 1 February 2018, the highest kill count for this monster was 4,616 kills.[3]
    • This had not increased by 6 May 2018.[4]
