The following table is based on actual prices at the Grand Exchange and can be used to determine a cheap way of training Herblore. Prayer potions are generally the cheapest way. Note that not every potion sells easily at the Grand Exchange or has ingredients that can be easily bought. For example, although defence potions are very cheap to produce, they require bear fur as an ingredient. Bear fur has a buying limit on the Grand Exchange of 100 every four hours. This would mean that simply buying all of ingredients to make enough defence potions to reach level 99 Herblore would take over 10,000 hours. Additionally, note that the production costs shown do not currently include the experience granted for making unfinished potions.
Two options are considered: buying vials at the Grand Exchange for 60 coins, or buying them at a shop for about 10 coins. Aemad's Adventuring Supplies in Ardougne sells 300 vials of water, Obli's General Store in Shilo sells 1,000 vials of water and 1,000 empty vials, as well as Jossik.
It may also be more profitable to buy grimy herbs (for less) and clean them (for more experience). Profit/loss using grimy herbs are shown between brackets.
- ^ a b c d e f g h i j Serum 207 and most of the high-level potions from Adrenaline to Overload are untradeable – 100% loss per potion. However, you can use the high-level potions for combat training or boss killing.
- ^ a b c Frog spawn, nightshades and Phoenix feathers are untradeable, effectively making it impossible to create non-trivial amounts of the potions in question.
