The blood reaver is a familiar that requires 73 Summoning in order to use.

If the familiar is set to auto-fire its scroll ability, it will not activate its scroll ability until the player is missing at least 1001 life points. The player and familiar do not need to be engaged in combat for auto-fire to work.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]

The blood reaver comes with a passive ability that turns health gained into damage against the player's primary target, up to 33% of the health restored.

This passive synergizes very well with cinderbane gloves. Each hitsplat, including the reaver's, has a chance to inflict poison. For each form of healing used (such as soul split, scrimshaw of vampyrism, or vampyrism aura) the blood reaver will provide an additional hitsplat. If all three are being used at the same time, the blood reaver can multiply the hits by up to 4 times, nearly quadrupling poison damage. This interaction is less effective when lifepoints are full, since any potential healing past the lifepoint cap will not trigger additional hits from the blood reaver. This can be circumvented by having a black crystal (reduced healing) in the inventory, which deals damage equivalent to 25% of any healing received, preventing the player from being at full lifepoints after being damaged at least once.

The blood reaver passive also has a chance to proc God books, which can help for consistency with getting book procs when you want them, such as a book of law proc on a Nex minion.

Binding contract (Blood reaver)[edit | edit source]

A Binding contract (blood reaver) is obtained via Archaeology.

In order to make the Ancient Summoning pouch, the mystery Dagon Bye must be completed. Once this mystery is solved, players may begin creating binding contracts, requiring 1 blue charm, a normal pouch, 2 Bloods of Orcus, 2 hellfire metal, and 200 spirit shards.

Upon making the binding contract, players must then kill blood reavers in order to bind the blood reaver into the contract resulting in binding contract (blood reaver). Unlike normal Summoning, Ancient Summoning does not require use of Summoning obelisks to infuse pouches.

Blood Reaver scroll (Blood Siphon)[edit | edit source]

Blood Reaver scrolls (Blood Siphon) allows the player to transfer 5% of the familiar's maximum health (up to 1000 life points healed) to them.

  • Blood Siphon always removes 5% of the blood reaver's maximum health.
  • If the blood reaver has less than 5% of its maximum health when using Blood Siphon, Blood Siphon will continue to heal the player up to 1000 life points, killing the familiar in the process.
  • If the player heals less than 1000 life points from using Blood Siphon, the blood reaver will still lose 5% of its maximum health.
  • For continued scroll use, it is important to periodically heal your familiar.
  • If planning to auto-fire scrolls, it can be helpful to use the "Store X scrolls" option to only store 20 scrolls at one time. This will stop auto-fire from using 21 scrolls and killing the blood reaver.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Its dialogue refers to the real-life issue of mercury in fish, with animals high on the food chain like sharks accumulating more in their bodies.
  • Blood Reaver is the only healing familiar to have its auto-fire trigger off of seconds rather than number of attacks, as well as being the only familiar that can automatically trigger its scroll ability when not engaged in combat.
  • There is a rare case where auto-fire will be turned off when the familiar has no scrolls to use if the player is eligible to heal. The player will have to reconfigure auto-fire again for it to turn back on.
