The blacksmith working the bellows was removed after an update.
The contents of this page no longer exist in RuneScape, and this article is kept for historical purposes.

The blacksmith working the bellows was an NPC who could be found next to the Lumbridge furnace east of the Combat Academy, where he helped to keep the public furnace running. Unlike most non-player characters, the blacksmith could not be spoken to or interacted with, although he could be examined. He was classed as an object, not an NPC, and as a result he did not appear as a yellow dot on the minimap.

The blacksmith replaced the Smelting Tutor on 17 September 2009 as part of Jagex's rework of Lumbridge and much of the free-to-play starting area.[1] As the Smelting Tutor was not originally present in Lumbridge, his removal and made the furnace closer to its original state.

The blacksmith did not help to explain Smithing to new players, and as a result he only served to add realism to the game.
