Beans are currency used in the player-owned farm. They can be exchanged for certain animals, items, and unlocks at the Farmers' Market. 500 are initially obtained during the tutorial at Manor Farm. They can be stored in the currency pouch. However, they can not be withdrawn once added. A maximum of one million beans can be owned at a time.

• At level 99 Farming, Granny Potterington gives an additional 100 beans.
• At level 120 Farming, Granny Potterington gives an additional 500 beans (total: 600).
• At 200 million Farming experience, Granny Potterington gives an additional 1,000 beans (total: 1,600).
• VIP members for 2018 received 500 free beans from the VIP area at the Grand Exchange.

To obtain more beans, the player must sell animals to their respective buyers. Depending on the size of animal the buyer is interested in, they will appear and stay for different lengths of time. It is recommended to force the particular buyer you want to appear by placing those animals in pens before the reset happens. Alternatively, speaking to Granny Potterington will allow you to advertise specific animals, forcing their buyers to appear.

The following factors influence how many beans are obtained by selling animals (see selling prices for more details):

• The animal's growth stage.
• Buyers' varying preferences.
• The master farmer outfit (+10%).
• Grandmaster Farmer rank (+10%).

Lost value

Animals sell for the most beans when they are in the adolescent stage. Choosing to wait until they grow to elder stage reduces the beans they award but gives additional experience. The following table details the experience lost per bean received, if sold at the adolescent stage. This does not account for the fact that raising an animal to elder stage takes more time, which means they eat more food overall and take up space in the pen for a longer time.
