This article is about the pets. For the attackable monsters, see baby dragon.

Baby dragons are high-level Summoning pets, released on 15 January 2008 with the Summoning skill. Requiring level 99 Summoning to obtain and raise, they are tied with TzRek-Jad, Frosty, the King Black Dragonling, the Queen Black Dragonling, and Rawrvek for the position of highest-level pet. A baby dragon is obtained by hatching a dragon egg in an incubator, found in the pet shops in Taverley and Yanille. The eggs are rare drops from green, blue, red, and black dragons. Consequently, there are four colours of baby dragons: green, blue, red, and black.

Approximately one hour after being placed in an incubator, a hatchling dragon will hatch from the dragon egg. The hatchling is about half the size of a baby dragon. This hatchling can be claimed from said incubator. After claiming the hatchling it'll show up in the pets interface under 'Follower Pets'.

Until a hidden update, it was previously impossible to understand hatchling or baby dragons, even with a +10 Summoning boost from a Clan Citadel battlefield.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Baby dragons used to be the only pets that could not be understood under any circumstances. While the chameleon and pet monkey both require 90 or higher Summoning level, players can speak to these pets by boosting Summoning to 100 or by using a monkeyspeak amulet or equivalent, respectively. TzRek-Jad may be spoken to normally, without need for any boosts. Baby dragons were released before it was possible to boost Summoning in any form except via the Summoning cape, so there used to be no dialogue scripted for them.
  • Cyrisus and Tim own pet dragons. Cyrisus mentions this if he is contacted via NPC Contact.
  • While hatchling dragons have a unique running animation, baby dragons just use their normal walking animation when running.
  • Before baby dragons were converted to pets interface, in order to hatch and raise more than one baby dragon, any existing baby dragons had to be stored in the Menagerie of a player-owned house. Prior to the release of Menageries, players could only own one baby dragon at a time.
