The Kingdom of Asgarnia is one of the great Central Kingdoms of the RuneScape world. Asgarnia's primary economic activities are crafting, mining, and fishing. It also has a notable navy based in Port Sarim. Its current ruler is King Vallance; However, the King has grown old and weak, and Sir Amik Varze of Falador now manages the Kingdom in his stead. The Crown Prince Anlaf also rules the Principality of Burthorpe somewhat independently. He was sent to govern by his father, the King, in order to amass the leadership experience necessary for him to one day accept the heavy burden of ruling the Kingdom.

Unlike many of the other Kingdoms, Asgarnia has a very centralized government, not relying on landowning Lords to micromanage the Kingdom's dealings as Misthalin or Morytania do.

Asgarnia is also the possible home of the Temple Knight's Headquarters and recruitment centre. Contrary to popular belief, Draynor Village and Edgeville are NOT located in Asgarnia, but are towns of Misthalin. Many are surprised by this due to the fact that the border between the two regions is so close to these towns.

Asgarnia is said to be a somewhat cold and mountainous country. Ice Mountain, for an example, is cold enough to be permanently covered with snow due to its height. In the southernmost tip of Asgarnia near Mudskipper Point, icy caverns extend deep into the earth, despite a seemingly more tropical climate on ground level.

History[edit | edit source]

Main article: Asgarnia/History

Asgarnia has always been a nation defined by its ideals of chivalry, duty, honor and justice. Therefore, it seems fitting that the White Knights and Temple Knights have made Falador, the capital city of Asgarnia, their home. The ideals of the nation fall in line almost perfectly with those of many Saradominist denominations, and likewise the Kingdom is predominantly Saradominist. They, however, are not the only group of people who have settled in Asgarnia.

The druids have been following the teachings of Guthix in Taverley as long as anyone can remember. They have made summoning and herblore popular activities throughout the Kingdom. Asgarnia is also home to a large dwarf population, and the mining guild have built a large network of underground tunnels. The dwarves are accepted by the people of Asgarnia and are treated with the same rights and dignity as any human.

Asgarnia has its fair share of problems to deal with. The Kinshra, the sworn enemies of the state for nearly a hundred years, threaten the Kingdom with constant attacks and raids. They hope to overthrow the White Knights and the King to claim the Kingdom for themselves in the name of their god Zamorak. To the North, Trolls from beyond the wall relentlessly assail the town of Burthorpe, overwhelming the defenses of the Imperial Guard and threatening to lay waste to all of Asgarnia and Misthalin, leaving the town in a state of constant war.

Asgarnia's strongest bond is to the perpetually allied nation of Misthalin, by whose aid the two nations have entered an age of peace and prosperity due to their common adherence to the teachings of the Church of Saradomin.

Main article: Falador Tasks

Asgarnia is one of the fifteen regions that have a Task System. Completion of the Falador Tasks rewards the player with a Falador shield. This shield, in parallel with the Task system, has four tiers, being Easy, Medium, Hard, and Elite difficulty for the tasks, and each tier of the shield listed by number, being 1, 2, 3, and 4. Each tier has gradually stricter requirements to complete the relative tasks, but reward the player with extra bonuses. The tasks listed are all relative to the local area of Falador.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The word "Asgarnia" might be a reference to Asgard, the home of the gods in Norse mythology.
  • Asgarnia seems to be represented by the motif of a lion, which appears on their herald cape and cannons.
