The crossbow is made by taking one of each of the 6 Ascension signets (Ascension signet I, II, III, IV, V, VI) dropped by the legiones in the Monastery of Ascension, along with a dragon crossbow and 100 ascension shards to Ocellus outside the monastery. Only the main hand or off-hand dragon crossbow will work; the 2-handed bow is not accepted by Ocellus. It can be converted to the off-hand Ascension crossbow for another 100 shards.
It degrades in combat like drygore weaponry, having 60,000 charges (but loses 2 per hit, giving a minimum time of 5 hours of combat) until it must be repaired by Bob for 2,000,000 coins or a lower amount on your armour stand depending on your Smithing level.
Assuming one obtained each signet on the 50th kill, it would cost 132,300,744 coins to create an Ascension crossbow. When the Legio is killed, the party member who dealt the most damage will receive the drop, regardless of who opened the door with a keystone. The other party member will be left with no loot; therefore, it is recommended to solo the ascension bosses for signets.

Repair cost[edit | edit source]
The base repair cost of the Ascension crossbow when completely degraded to 0.0% item charge is 2,000,000 coins. It can be repaired by:
- Bob - the axe seller in Lumbridge
- Tindel Marchant - the weapon and armour repairman at Port Khazard
- Dunstan - the smith in Burthorpe
- Squire - in the workshop area of the Void Knights' Outpost
If it is only partially degraded the cost of a full repair is multiplied by the percentage of item charge that needs to be repaired to produce the current repair cost.

Creation[edit | edit source]
If players wish to create Ascension crossbows, assuming each signet is obtained on the 50th kill of each Legio, the cost is as follows:
|Boss||Key required||Cost for 50 keys|
|Legio Primus||Ascension Keystone Primus||37,445,250|
|Legio Secundus||Ascension Keystone Secundus||17,688,450|
|Legio Tertius||Ascension Keystone Tertius||16,051,600|
|Legio Quartus||Ascension Keystone Quartus||15,360,000|
|Legio Quintus||Ascension Keystone Quintus||16,530,900|
|Legio Sextus||Ascension Keystone Sextus||15,483,950|
|Total cost for main-hand crossbow||132,300,744|
|Profit for Ascension crossbow||66,085,466|
|Total cost for off-hand crossbow||132,320,544|
|Profit for Off-hand ascension crossbow||66,735,032|
|The above profit is calculated by combining the cost for 50 keys plus the cost of a dragon crossbow and 100 Ascension shards for the main-hand or 200 Ascension shards for the off-hand.|
Dyed[edit | edit source]

Update history[edit | edit source]
- patch 11 April 2016 (Update):
- Repairing ascension crossbows in a player-owned house no longer refers to them as "ancient equipment".
- patch 25 January 2016 (Update):
- Ascension crossbows no longer protect players from aggression in the God Wars Dungeon.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- This item used to provide protection from monsters in the God Wars Dungeon. It was revealed that it was an unintentional side effect of sharing the same repair cost parameter as Nex armour; it was categorised as "ancient equipment", and so would repair at the same time as Nex armour if used with an armour stand. This was finally patched on 25 January 2016.
