The Ascension crossbow is a crossbow requiring level 90 Ranged to wield. It has an off-hand counterpart and is able to fire all bolts including Ascension bolts, made with 90 Fletching.

The crossbow is made by taking one of each of the 6 Ascension signets (Ascension signet I, II, III, IV, V, VI) dropped by the legiones in the Monastery of Ascension, along with a dragon crossbow and 100 ascension shards to Ocellus outside the monastery. Only the main hand or off-hand dragon crossbow will work; the 2-handed bow is not accepted by Ocellus. It can be converted to the off-hand Ascension crossbow for another 100 shards.

It degrades in combat like drygore weaponry, having 60,000 charges (but loses 2 per hit, giving a minimum time of 5 hours of combat) until it must be repaired by Bob for 2,000,000 coins or a lower amount on your armour stand depending on your Smithing level.

Assuming one obtained each signet on the 50th kill, it would cost 85,006,681 coins to create an Ascension crossbow. When the Legio is killed, the party member who dealt the most damage will receive the drop, regardless of who opened the door with a keystone. The other party member will be left with no loot; therefore, it is recommended to solo the ascension bosses for signets.

Players on a budget may consider dual-wielding an Ascension crossbow with off-hand Death Lotus darts. When first attacking a target, the main hand weapon is used and thus its ammo is lost far more often than the off-hand ammo. Therefore, this combination negates the high upfront cost of the off-hand Ascension crossbow and greatly reduces the loss of indirectly expensive/untradeable Death Lotus darts while sacrificing a relatively small amount of damage.

The crossbow, and the off-hand variant can be dyed with either barrows, shadow, third-age, blood, or ice dyes. This process is irreversible and will make the crossbow untradeable.

Repair cost[edit | edit source]

The base repair cost of the Ascension crossbow when completely degraded to 0.0% item charge is 2,000,000 coins. It can be repaired by:

Alternatively, it can be repaired on an armour stand in a player-owned house, or a whetstone device anywhere. This provides a discount of 0.5% per Smithing level (including boosts).

If it is only partially degraded, then the cost of a full repair is multiplied by the percentage of item charge that needs to be repaired to produce the current repair cost.

    • Ascension crossbows no longer protect players from aggression in the God Wars Dungeon.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

Concept art for the Ascension crossbow
  • This item used to provide protection from monsters in the God Wars Dungeon.[1] It was revealed that it was an unintentional side effect of sharing the same repair cost parameter as Nex armour; it was (and still is) categorised as "ancient equipment", and so would repair at the same time as Nex armour if used with an armour stand.[2] This was finally patched on 25 January 2016.
