Achievement Paths
Achievement Paths were released on 18 April 2017. It can be found under the summary in the Achievements tab in the Hero interface, and can be undocked and moved elsewhere if desired. It directs players towards goals that require multiple smaller steps to complete.
There are variety of different path books, the main one accessible to all players, and area themed ones for Tutorial Island and Burthorpe for new players that serve as a tutorial. Most paths do not give any rewards other than those already given by individual path achievements, but some in the area path books do. Most path achievements do not necessarily need to be completed in the order they are shown in, but most those in the area path books do.
Path books[edit | edit source]
Path books were released on 2 September 2019. They were introduced as a way of separating paths for different areas and allowing for path suggestions based on the area the player is currently in. There are 3 path books.

Transcript[edit | edit source]
Update history[edit | edit source]
- patch 31 January 2022 (Update):
- If a player has previously completed a Troll Warzone Gelatinous Abomination task, Turael will now skip the step in his Burthorpe path that required the player to defeat Gelatinous Abominations.
- patch 6 September 2021 (Update):
- Fixed an issue where some of the optional Burthorpe paths couldn't be completed after completing the Path to Lumbridge.
- The Farming, Herblore and Summoning Paths are now listed in the Burthorpe and Taverley Path Book upon completing Turael's Slayer Path. Previously, they were unlocked by receiving certain drops available from Burthorpe trolls after completing the Slayer Path.
- Prevented a UI tutorial for Summoning Charm drops that occurred for certain players when killing cows in Burthorpe.
- On Mobile only, the Activity Tracker UI tutorial that guides a new player onto the Burthorpe paths now guides them through pressing the static Activity Tracker button in the top left corner to open it.
- Desktop still starts where it always did, with the Activity Tracker forced onscreen.
- Added a missing spotlight to one of the stages of Turael's second combat interface tutorial on mobile.
- The Bossing Path can now be removed from the Activity Tracker.
- The Bossing Path, if selected, now advances to the next available boss in the path when the selected boss is first defeated.
- patch 9 August 2021 (Update):
- Archaeology tutorial
- The Archaeology Path will now progress as expected.
- The 'Breaking the Seal' Archaeology mystery achievement is now free-to-play.
- Removed the Assistant, Associate, Professor and Guildmaster qualification achievements from the Archaeology Path.
- The path now completes upon breaking the seal and entering Kharid-et.
- The Qualification - Intern hint trail now leads to Acting Guildmaster Reiniger instead of the entrance to the Archaeology Guild.
- The Archaeology Path hint trail is now suppressed when following the Archaeology tutorial, which has its own trail.
- Archaeology tutorial
- Achievements
- Removed the Lumbridge Achievement Path Book as well as the Novice Explorer path from the Burthorpe Path Book. It will return when the Path System is rewritten or removed.
- The Dungeoneering Path has been moved from the Default Path Book to the Burthorpe and Taverley Path Book, as it points the player to the Taverley docks.
- Achievements
- Improvements
- Path rewards are now displayed in a central popup which also describes the completed path. This will replace the previous popup.
- When on a path containing dialogue choices, the first choice will be selected by default in cases where the player taps out before making a choice.
- Clarified and standardised the text for choosing a Path in Turael's dialogue.
- The Leather Crafting Path no longer requires the player to pick up a cowhide before unlocking it.
- Improved the user interface tutorial when choosing a path via the 'I want to choose a different path' dialogue.
- Users will now be forced out of the Abandoned Burthorpe mine if they disable the guidance system during the Morningstar instance.

- Improvements
- Fixes

- patch 1 June 2021 (Update):
- Players will no longer become stuck on the shop tutorial while on the 'Wealth' optional path in Burthorpe
- patch 8 February 2021 (Update):
- The quest system is no longer dependent on the old Achievement system. If you are currently tracking a quest or a removed path, invalid IDs will be cleared from the Activity Tracker the next time you log in.
- Quest Achievements and paths consisting of quests have been temporarily removed from Achievement Paths. They will be restored when the path system can be rewritten to work with the new Achievement system.
- Players on the Tutorial path will no longer receive certain in-game message notifications.
- patch 9 November 2020 (Update):
- As they were too frequent before, 'Achievement Complete' pop-ups no longer occur for Path Achievements. Completing an entire path (with the exception of the Tutorial Island Path) will still trigger the completion pop-up.

- patch 23 March 2020 (Update):
- Total skill level checks for 'First Time User Experience' (FTUE) achievements are now a one-off login check. This should resolve an issue where some players could not log in.
- patch 18 March 2020 (Update):
- Previously, the Burthorpe and Taverley path books were hidden from 'experienced' players (at least 250 total level), but the achievements in these hidden paths could still be completed. These path books are now visible to all players, but Turael's new player paths in Burthorpe are now marked as complete if the player is 'experienced' or has turned off guidance system hints. (You can toggle guidance system hints, including contextual tutorial popups, in your Settings -> Gameplay -> General -> Optional Interfaces.) So if you're levelling a new alt and aren't interested in the tutorial achievements, you can simply flag them as complete.
- Restrictions for 'experienced' users have been relaxed:
- Guidance system hints are now automatically turned off if you choose 'I have played very recently' after character creation.
- Players are now considered 'experienced’ at total level 100, down from 250.
- Upon reaching total level 100, the Burthorpe 'First Time User Experience' will be marked as ‘complete’.
- Turning off guidance system hints will now clear the FTUE path if selected.
- The description for the guidance system hints toggle has been changed to 'Receive small tutorials and tips while playing. If disabled, the Burthorpe tutorial is treated as complete.'
- Updated the Lumbridge path to stop referring to the Lumbridge Market bank chest as the Combat Academy bank chest.
- Players who choose the pacifist route and allow Ariane to defeat Magic Stick without damaging the troll themselves will now still complete the Burthorpe introductory path.
- The Recommended: Unlocked Ancient Curses achievement no longer appears as blank in the Activity Tracker if selected from the Achievement Path window.
- patch 2 March 2020 (Update):
- Achievement and path system popups/messaging/fireworks for completing Tutorial Island no longer occur when transitioning to Burthorpe for the first time.
- patch 25 November 2019 (Update):
- Players who equipped items required by specific Burthorpe path achievements before reaching that stage in the selected path should now complete the achievement if they currently have the correct melee/ranged/magic/spiked-gauntlets item equipped. The backpack/worn equipment is now only brought to front if an item is currently being highlighted in that inventory.
- Corrected an issue where achievement path window could draw before stats were transmitted to the client, resulting in some achievements that required skills drawing as if all skills are level 1.
- patch 18 November 2019 (Update):
- The X/Y tracker for an achievement path in the activity tracker heading now displays the selected achievement in the path, not the completed achievements in the path.
- To keep the systems in sync, selecting a locked or completed achievement in the path window now also selects this achievement in the activity tracker.
- Content icons in the activity tracker now display a padlock over locked achievements and a tick over completed achievements, in a similar fashion to the achievement path window.
- patch 11 November 2019 (Update):
- Disabling guidance system hints (Gameplay -> General -> Optional Interfaces in Settings) now prevents automatically selecting the next available achievement in a path if no path is selected and the activity tracker is empty.
- patch 21 October 2019 (Update):
- When completing a quest in a quest series achievement path, the next quest in the series is no longer automatically selected.
