The 2022 Halloween event features multiple Halloween miniquests and activities placed around Draynor Manor. Each miniquest has their own reward. The event runs from 24 October 2022 to 6 November 2022.
During the event many regular trees are decorated with some pumpkins on the ground around them and skulls hanging from their branches. A temporary bank chest can be found in the event area next to Death, and two Market Guards are defending the village south of ravenous skeletons. Event noticeboards were also changed (and in some locations added) to promote the event and offer teleports to the event area. The holiday portal in Prifddinas can also be entered to teleport to the event area.
Spooky time[edit | edit source]
Every three hours, at 00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, and 21:00 UTC, the spooky time buff becomes active in the Draynor Manor grounds on all worlds simultaneously. When this happens, players in the area earn 2–14% more experience when skilling, depending on the number of miniquests completed: 2% with none completed, and an extra 2% for every miniquest completed (up to six). The buff lasts for an hour at a time.
The buff stacks with other experience boosts, but is applied separately before them, meaning that for instance with bonus experience the experience gains are multiplied by 2.28 with the full spooky time buff of 14%.
This buff is not available to Ironman Mode players.
Miniquests[edit | edit source]
There are five returning miniquests from the 2020 and 2021 Halloween events: Death's, Pestilence's, Death's dogwalker's, Ed's and Greg's. Players who have previously completed these miniquests will still have them completed this year and can access the respective activities right away.
None of these are technically miniquests, but are still referred to as such.
Death[edit | edit source]
Speak to Death, asking how to help. He gives the player a polarising crystal. Interacting with the item reveals four locations in turn. At each location, the player must find (by interacting with the crystal again) fragmented souls and heal them. Clicking on the soul and remaining within range of it grants Divination and Runecrafting experience each game tick for 18 seconds (30 ticks) until the soul is fully healed.
Locations[edit | edit source]
- Barbarian Village, a barbarian who died with "burial, fires and a trial".
- Northern part of the dwarven mines, a dwarf who is betrayed over trade.
- Cabbage field north of Port Sarim or north-west of Draynor Village; a cabbage who has fallen into boiling water.
- Lumbridge Swamp well, east of the entrance to Water altar, a fragment belonging to a spider attacked by several people with bronze and iron weaponry.
Rewards[edit | edit source]
- 500 spooky tokens
- Death's hood cosmetic override
- Access to the Fragmented Souls activity in the courtyard of Draynor Manor, which supply you with spooky tokens and Divination and Runecrafting experience
- If not unlocked previously, the emotes from previous Halloween events: Ghost Story, Proto Pack, and The Architect.
Pestilence[edit | edit source]
Pestilence is located west of Draynor lodestone and south of Maggie's caravan. He tells the player that he requires "reagents" for the soup he is making, requiring 5 cabbages, 5 onions, and 5 potatoes.
- Cabbages can be picked east of Falador Farm. Cabbages from Draynor Manor don't work.
- Onions can be picked south of the bank in Draynor Village.
- Potatoes can be found north of Lumbridge, southeast of Varrock Lodestone near Rat Burgiss.
After bringing him the items, Pestilence tells the player that they have to play the game of the ghosts. Head to the Lumbridge cemetery and talk to one of the ghosts. After going through the explanation, you will have the option to tell a joke and pretend to be scared. Talk to and select both options for each of the three ghosts:
The riddle is explained as follows:
- Spook loves to scare people, but he really hates jokes.
- Misty on the other hand really hates scaring people, but they love a good joke.
- Bungles is a free spirit and loves scaring people and jokes.
- Two of the ghosts are particularly mischievious and will always lie about their likes and dislikes when you talk to them.
Spook and Misty both lie, so their answers must be reversed, resulting in the following solution to the riddle:
- If the ghost says he likes the joke and likes to scare, he is Bungles.
- If the ghost says he doesn't like the joke but likes to scare, he is Misty.
- If the ghost says he likes the joke but doesn't like to scare, he is Spook.
Riddle answer is: (3) Misty, (2) Bungles & (1) Spook in that order.
After completing the riddle, the ghosts disappear and the player has to meet Pestilence again. After a conversation, Pestilence and the three ghosts can then be found in the west section of the Draynor Manor courtyard (see plague soup, an activity that awards Herblore and Cooking experience and spooky tokens).
Rewards[edit | edit source]
- 500 spooky tokens
- Access to the Plague Soup activity, rewarding 53 spooky tokens per set of 25 potatoes, onions, and cabbages added to the soup
Death's dogwalker[edit | edit source]
Speak to Death's dogwalker in the eastern part of the Draynor Manor grounds just south of Ed's Shooting Gallery, who explains that Death's one and only dog, Muncher, ran away into the manor during his usual walk. The dogwalker thinks Muncher has been hiding his bones inside the manor, but is too scared to go inside.
Enter the mansion and find five sets of Chewed Bones. Three piles of these bones can be found on the ground floor[UK]1st floor[US] floor, one pile of bones on the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US] floor, and one pile of bones on the 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US] floor. Note that the fifth set of bones, on the 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US] floor, will only appear after the other four sets of bones have been observed.
- Ground floor[UK]1st floor[US], next to the staircase. (Maplink)
- Ground floor[UK]1st floor[US], in the southeastern most room. (Maplink)
- Ground floor[UK]1st floor[US], in the kitchen pantry near Helda the witch and Maemi the black cat (the northwestern most room). (Maplink)
- 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US], in the southeastern room. (Maplink)
- 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US], in the southern room (climb the ladder near the staircase). (Maplink)
After finding the fifth bone, Muncher will appear behind the player in a cutscene. Leave the mansion through most south-eastern room and report back to the dogwalker, who is relieved that the player has brought the dog back.
However, now a new problem has arisen: there's no dog treats left! Death's dogwalker then proceeds to give the player a spade and asks the player to dig around the graveyard area near him for small doggy bones. The spade will give off heat messages indicating the distance to the location of the bones, listed below.
- "Ice Cold." (5 or more tiles away)
- "Cold." (3–4 tiles away)
- "Hot!" (2 tiles away)
- "So close!" (1 tile away)
Rewards[edit | edit source]
- Access to the Death's Dogwalker activity, rewarding 10 spooky tokens per a set of small doggy bones and 20 spooky tokens per a set of big doggy bones
Luna[edit | edit source]
Speak to Luna in the south-eastern part of the Draynor Manor grounds. She will tell you to speak with Ed and Greg to help them out. After completing both Ed's and Greg's miniquests, return to Luna to receive 1,000 spooky tokens.
Ed[edit | edit source]
Ed (doesn't appear, until you've talked to Luna) is located in the north-eastern part of the Draynor Manor grounds. Upon speaking to him he will tell you to go and speak with Greg, who will then ask for six raw shrimp (obtainable at the small fishing net fishing spot south of Draynor Village bank). Return with the shrimp and Greg will cook them for you into sea monster bait. Take the bait back to Ed and he will need you to attack the sea monster using the nearby cannons. When a kraken tentacle appears in one of the three lanes, fire the corresponding cannon. After successfully firing at 15 tentacles, the sea monster disappears. Talk to Ed to complete the miniquest.
Rewards[edit | edit source]
- Access to the Shooting Gallery activity
Greg[edit | edit source]
Greg (doesn't appear, until you've talked to Luna) is located in the south-western part of the Draynor Manor grounds. Upon speaking to him he will tell you to go and speak with Luna, who gives you Luna's compass. Select the "track" option and a red sphere will shoot out, guiding you towards a discarded sword hilt and a discarded sword blade. Take these to Greg who repairs the sword and asks you to kill 20 ravenous skeletons to the south-west of where Greg is standing. After killing the skeletons two more abilities will get unlocked and Greg will require you to kill 50 more skeletons in the nearby area. Finishing this unlocks the Arteria cosmetic which overrides the appearance of two handed weapons.
Rewards[edit | edit source]
- Arteria cosmetic override
- Access to the Skeleton Invasion activity
Fame[edit | edit source]
Speak to Luna about a mysterious woman. Ed and Greg will chime in telling you she went into the manor. Enter Draynor Manor, go downstairs into Count Draynor's crypt and speak to Fame with some space in your backpack. She will hand you a gilded box and ask you to investigate two vampyric fonts. One of these is located on the road between the Lumber Yard and Silvarea. The other is near Maggie, just west of the Draynor lodestone. At each font you will need to select items from the gilded box (via chat prompt) to retrieve the item within the font.
At the first font the correct items to use are a "Blood Bucket", a "Crystal Pickaxe", and a "Beautiful Chisel", which yields a Trendy Tome.
At the second font the correct items to use are "Fame's Fan" and a "Bat's Wax candle", after which you should select to say "Join Us." This yields the stylish spectacles.
After investigating each font and receiving both items, return to Fame in Draynor Manor basement to finish this miniquest.
Rewards[edit | edit source]
- Vampyric Regalia cosmetic override.
- 1,000 spooky tokens
Activities[edit | edit source]
There are several activities you can play to acquire spooky tokens after completing the corresponding task.
Fragmented Souls[edit | edit source]
The objective of the activity is to help the four fragmented souls travelling around the courtyard in clockwise direction.
Every 30 helpings, 16–19 spooky tokens will be awarded. With double Surge, Bladed Dive, and Mobile, around 2,730 tokens can be collected per hour. The most click-effective way to gain tokens is to stand in a corner and siphon a soul as it comes into the screen, around the corner, and out of sight. The next soul will come along quickly and this way the player can stand in one spot while gaining tokens at a high rate.
After unlocking Death's Fastness, the number of fragmented souls travelling around the courtyard increases from four to ten. Standing in a corner and interacting with the furthest upcoming soul can grant up to 3,150 tokens per hour.
Fragmented Souls experience[edit | edit source]
The following tables list experience rewarded in a single unboosted action when helping the fragmented souls at different skill levels.
Plague Soup[edit | edit source]
An activity that is run by Pestilence, located in Draynor Manor west of where Death stands. The Pestilence miniquest must be completed first; otherwise the crates are empty and can't be used to participate in the activity.
The objective of the activity is to prepare 25 of each vegetable variant by using the three crates placed around the area and hand them in at the cauldron. The Crate of Cabbages yields prepared cabbages, the Crate of Onions prepared onions, and the Crate of Potatoes prepared potatoes. The process can be optimised by preparing the crates that the three ghosts by the cauldron are yelling. Preparing a crate that isn't being yelled by the ghosts will grant one vegetable at a time, and preparing the crate being yelled by the ghosts will grant three vegetables at a time.
The yelling of the vegetable changes every 30 seconds, and is repeated every 6 seconds. The orders always follow the order "cabbage, onion, potato", repeating infinitely. Preparing at any crate causes the player to continuously prepare the vegetables in 1.8-second intervals. Each portion of 75 vegetables (must have 25 of all three types) added to the cauldron will grant the player 53 spooky tokens per hand-in, and as many as possible portions are handed in in one action. By following the orders, approximately 3,816 tokens can be collected per hour, while not doing so yields approximately 2,356 tokens per hour.
After unlocking Famine's Feast, the players gather six ingredients at a time rather than three while gathering the correct ingredient. By following the orders, approximately 7,000 tokens can be collected per hour, while not doing so yields approximately 3,768 tokens per hour.
Plague Soup experience[edit | edit source]
Preparing any vegetable crate gives Cooking and Herblore experience scaled to your level in the respective skill according to formula , where is the experience for one action and is your level in the skill.
The following tables list experience rewarded in a single non-boosted action when preparing any of the crates.
Death's Dogwalker[edit | edit source]
The objective of the activity is to use Muncher's spade to dig around the graveyard area near Death's dogwalker for small and big doggy bones for treats for Muncher. The spade gives off heat messages indicating the distance to the location of the bones: "Ice Cold." (more than five tiles away), "Cold." (3–4 tiles away), "Hot!" (two tiles away), and 'So close!' (one tile away). Once found, hand the bones to the dogwalker to obtain the reward.
10 spooky tokens are awarded per a set of small bones, and 20 spooky tokens per a set of big bones. The speed at which the player is able to find bones varies greatly as it depends on the bones' locations and player's skill in the activity. Approximately 6% of the bones are big doggy bones and on average it is possible to find bones roughly every 22 seconds, resulting in approximately 1,735 spooky tokens per hour.
After unlocking Frank's Fibula Finder, it becomes possible to discover bones which are one tile away from the digging spot. This effectively makes the spade dig on a three-by-three-tile area centred on the player instead of a single tile on the player's location.
This activity provides an unknown chance at obtaining Eek, a wieldable spider pet.
Death's Dogwalker experience[edit | edit source]
The following tables list experience rewarded for finding either type of bones at different skill levels.
Shooting Gallery[edit | edit source]
The objective of this activity is to use the three cannons to defeat the sea monsters that spawn in each of the three lanes. Firing the cannons causes the player to continuously fire the cannon every three seconds, grants a spooky token per shot when fired on an empty lane, and four spooky tokens per shot when fired on a lane with a sea monster. The sea monsters take 15 seconds to reach the cannon, at which point a new sea monster always spawns on a new lane. Actively switching the lanes to hit the sea monsters can grant up to 4,800 spooky tokens an hour, while continuing to fire a single cannon generates on average 2,400 tokens an hour.
After purchasing Pest's Precision from Death's Spooky Reward Shop, the firing rate increases from once every 3 seconds to once every 1.2 seconds. This can grant up to 12,000 spooky token an hour if actively switching lane, while continuing to fire a single cannon generates on average 6,000 tokens an hour.
Shooting Gallery experience[edit | edit source]
Firing a cannon grants Hunter and Fishing experience that scales to your levels in those skills in accordance with the formula . It is a good semi-afk alternative hunter-skilling method for accounts with hunter levels under 75, as it is theoretically possible to obtain 39,000 exp per hour from level 65 onwards. This activity doesn't yield equipment experience in Fishing.
Skeleton Invasion[edit | edit source]
The objective of this activity is to use the four minigame abilities unlocked during the miniquest to quickly defeat the ravenous skeletons that spawn in the area. These skeletons are instanced per player. There are a total of 12 skeletons, and all skeletons respawn instantly if and only if every single skeleton has been killed.
Killing all the skeletons of a wave grants 13 tokens and respawns a new wave. Only casting Annihilate every 28.2 seconds grants approximately 1,660 spooky tokens per hour. Manually killing one wave between each cast of Annihilate grants approximately 3,319 tokens per hour. Delaying the casting of Annihilate to manually kill two waves between each cast is only worth it if the player can kill two waves within 42 seconds.
After unlocking War's Repeat, the cooldown of every ability is roughly halved. Only casting Annihilate at its reduced cooldown of 14.4 seconds grants approximately 3,250 spooky tokens per hour.
Skeleton Invasion experience[edit | edit source]

Transcript[edit | edit source]
Update history[edit | edit source]
- patch 31 October 2022 (Update):
- Some players who have been unable to complete Death's miniquest should now be able to finish it and claim their reward.
- Incy's pet description now refers to Incy as a follower pet.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The options when interacting with a Vampyric Font during the miniquest for Fame contain the following references
- "Klaatu barada nikto" is a reference to Klaatu barada nikto, a phrase that originated in the 1951 science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still.
- "BAT!" (and the subsequent dialogue), is a reference to a running gag from the TV version of What We Do in the Shadows, a horror comedy mockumentary about vampires living on Staten Island. One of the vampires, Laszlo Cravensworth, says this whenever he turns into a bat.
- There was a bug related to Spooky Hours. While on a free-to-play world, players who redeemed a bond for a membership subscription during a Spooky Hour would never lose the Spooky Hour boost until they hopped worlds, logged out, or left the event area. This bug was active on 24 October 2022. Additionally, the Spooky Hour boost lasted longer than an hour commonly on that day.
