2020 Halloween event

The 2020 Halloween event features four different Halloween miniquests placed around the newly introduced Halloween hub at Draynor Manor. Each miniquest has their own reward, including a companion pet, Muncher. Alongside the rewards introduced with the miniquests, Death's ceremonial scythe can be bought for 4,000 spooky tokens in Death's Spooky Reward Shop.

During the event many oaks and regular trees were decorated with some pumpkins on the ground around them and skulls hanging from their branches. A temporary bank chest, the Spooky Bank chest, was found in the event area next to Death. Event noticeboards were also changed (and in some locations added) to promote the event and offer teleports to the event area. The holiday portal in Prifddinas could also be entered to teleport to the event area.

At the beginning of 9 November 2020 all the event-specific interactive scenery, items, and NPCs were removed.

Spooky time[edit | edit source]

At the top of every hour there is a chance that the "spooky time" buff becomes active in the Draynor Manor grounds on all worlds simultaneously. When this happens, players in the area earn 1–5% more experience when skilling, depending on the number of miniquests completed: 1% extra with none completed, 2% with one completed, 3% with two completed, 4% with three completed, and 5% with all four completed.

Miniquests[edit | edit source]

Death[edit | edit source]

Speak to Death, asking how to help. He gives the player a polarising crystal. Interacting with the item reveals four locations in turn. At each location, the player must find (by interacting with the crystal again) fragmented souls and heal them. Clicking on the soul and remaining within range of it grants Divination and Runecrafting experience each game tick for 18 seconds (30 ticks) until the soul is fully healed.

Locations[edit | edit source]

Rewards[edit | edit source]

Famine[edit | edit source]

Given by Famine, who is found north-west of the water altar entrance. She asks you to harvest 120 fresh potatoes and 120 rotten potatoes from the four patches beside her, and to reach a stack of 30 for a buff or debuff. Two of the plants will be fresh and the others will be rotten, alternating every 30 seconds or so. You will start out harvesting one potato at a time; after harvesting the same kind in a row, a buff for fresh potatoes or a debuff for the rotten potatoes will start building a stack, and once the stack reaches 30, you will get a message ("You have reached a streak of 30 and are collecting at a higher rate!") and will harvest three at a time. Harvesting the plants will award Farming and Woodcutting experience every 1.8 seconds.

Once you hand 120 of each type of potato in, 70 spooky tokens are given per potato type, and if you've also reached a stack of 30 for the buff or debuff, Famine directs you to sit under a tree and wait. The tree she points out is to the southeast, just outside of the water altar entrance. Speak to the ghost, who will ask you to find his three brothers around Draynor:

  • One ghost is just north of the market.
  • One wanders near the summoning obelisk south of the bank.
  • The other is just south of the wheat field north of the prison.

After speaking to each of the brothers, the ghost will send you to ask Famine how the blight is made, before you can finally begin creating the anti-blight.

From the ghost brothers, you learn clues to creating anti-blight: no two steps are repeated consecutively, there are more mixes than swirls than shakes, and the steps to create anti-blight must be performed in reverse order as performed when creating the original blight mix. From Famine, you learn that the steps to creating the blight mixture are mix, swirl, shake, with another mix 'somewhere before' in the process.

Return to the ghost to make the anti-blight. The solution is:

  1. Swirl.
  2. Mix.
  3. Swirl.
  4. Mix.
  5. Shake.
  6. Mix.

Speaking with Famine again, she instructs you to meet her at the manor, and she and the potatoes disappear and move to the Manor courtyard.

Rewards[edit | edit source]

Pestilence[edit | edit source]

Pestilence is located west of Draynor lodestone and south of Maggie's caravan. He tells the player that he requires "reagents" for the soup he is making, requiring 5 cabbages, 5 onions, and 5 potatoes.

After bringing him the items, Pestilence tells the player that they have to play the game of the ghosts. Head to the Lumbridge cemetery and talk to one of the ghosts. After going through the explanation, you will have the option to tell a joke and pretend to be scared. Talk to and select both options for each of the three ghosts:

The riddle is explained as follows:

  • Spook loves to scare people, but he really hates jokes.
  • Misty on the other hand really hates scaring people, but they love a good joke.
  • Bungles is a free spirit and loves scaring people and jokes.
  • Two of the ghosts are particularly mischievious and will always lie about their likes and dislikes when you talk to them.

Spook and Misty both lie, so their answers must be reversed, resulting in the following solution to the riddle:

  • If the ghost says he likes the joke and likes to scare, he is Bungles.
  • If the ghost says he doesn't like the joke but likes to scare, he is Misty.
  • If the ghost says he likes the joke but doesn't like to scare, he is Spook.

Riddle answer is: (3) Misty, (2) Bungles & (1) Spook in that order.

After completing the riddle, the ghosts disappear and the player has to meet Pestilence again. After a conversation, Pestilence and the three ghosts can then be found in the west section of the Draynor Manor courtyard (see plague soup, an activity that awards Herblore and Cooking experience and spooky tokens).

Rewards[edit | edit source]

  • 500 spooky tokens
  • Access to the plague soup activity, rewarding 50 spooky tokens per set of 25 potatoes, onions, and cabbages added to the soup

Death's dogwalker[edit | edit source]

Speak to Death's dogwalker in the north-eastern part of the Draynor Manor grounds, who explains that Death's one and only dog, Muncher, ran away into the manor during his usual walk. The dogwalker thinks Muncher has been hiding his bones inside the manor, but is too scared to go inside.

Enter the mansion and find five sets of Chewed Bones. Three piles of these bones can be found on the ground floor[UK]1st floor[US] floor, one pile of bones on the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US] floor, and one pile of bones on the 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US] floor. Note that the fifth set of bones, on the 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US] floor, will only appear after the other four sets of bones have been observed.

  • Ground floor[UK]1st floor[US], next to the staircase
  • Ground floor[UK]1st floor[US], in the kitchen pantry near Helda the witch and Maemi the black cat.
  • Ground floor[UK]1st floor[US], in the south eastern most room.
  • 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US], in the southeastern room
  • 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US], in the southern room (climb the ladder near the staircase)

After finding the fifth bone, Muncher will appear behind the player in a cutscene. Leave the mansion through most south-eastern room and report back to the dogwalker, who is relieved that the player has brought the dog back.

However, now a new problem has arisen: there's no dog treats left! Death's dogwalker then proceeds to give the player a spade and asks the player to dig around the graveyard area near him for small doggy bones. The spade will give off heat messages indicating the distance to the location of the bones, listed below.

  • "Ice Cold." (5 or more tiles away)
  • "Cold." (3–4 tiles away)
  • "Hot!" (2 tiles away)
  • "So close!" (1 tile away)

Finding the bones yields Archaeology and Mining experience. After finding the bones, talk to the dogwalker to hand the bones in and obtain your reward.

Rewards[edit | edit source]

Activities[edit | edit source]

There are several activities you can play to acquire spooky tokens after completing the corresponding task.

Fragmented souls[edit | edit source]

An activity that is run by Death, located in Draynor Manor courtyard. The Death miniquest must be completed first; otherwise the fragmented souls do not show up.

The objective of the activity is to help the four fragmented souls travelling around the courtyard in clockwise direction.

Every 30 helpings, 16–19 spooky tokens will be awarded. With double-surge, bladed dive, and mobile perk, around 2,730 tokens can be collected per hour.

Fragmented souls experience[edit | edit source]

Helping a soul and remaining within range of it grants Divination and Runecrafting experience scaled to your levels in these skills each game tick until the soul travels too far.

The following tables list experience rewarded in a single unboosted action when helping the fragmented souls at different skill levels.

Potatoes[edit | edit source]

An activity that is run by Famine, located in Draynor Manor east of where Death stands. The Famine miniquest must be completed first; otherwise the potato plots will be empty.

The objective of the activity is to collect fresh potatoes and rotten potatoes for Famine. 100 potatoes are turned in at a time. One type of potato may be turned in without the other. Two of the plants will be fresh and the others will be rotten, they will alternate every 30 seconds or so. If you collect the same type of potato consecutively, you gain a boost to how many you harvest at a time when the buff or debuff reaches 30 stacks, causing you to harvest three potatoes per action. Collecting the opposite type of potatoes reduces the stacks of the buff or debuff by three points per action until it is gone and then awards a buff or debuff for the opposite type. When not harvesting at all, the buff or debuff stack reduces by one point per six seconds.

For every 100 potatoes you hand in to Famine, the ghost will secretly give you 70 spooky tokens. By keeping the buff or debuff stack above 30, approximately 3,850 tokens can be collected per hour, while staying at one plant yields approximately 1,394 tokens per hour.

Potatoes experience[edit | edit source]

Harvesting from the plants will award Farming and Woodcutting experience scaled to your levels in these skills per action, and each action takes 1.8 seconds. The player will continue harvesting automatically until interrupted.

The following tables list experience rewarded in a single unboosted action when harvesting either type of potatoes at different skill levels.

Plague soup[edit | edit source]

An activity that is run by Pestilence, located in Draynor Manor west of where Death stands. The Pestilence miniquest must be completed first; otherwise the crates are empty and can't be used to participate in the activity.

The objective of the activity is to prepare 25 of each vegetable variant by using the three crates placed around the area and hand them in at the cauldron. The Crate of Cabbages yields prepared cabbages, the Crate of Onions prepared onions, and the Crate of Potatoes prepared potatoes. The process can be optimised by preparing the crates that the three ghosts by the cauldron are yelling. Preparing a crate that isn't being yelled by the ghosts will grant one vegetable at a time, and preparing the crate being yelled by the ghosts will grant three vegetables at a time.

The yelling of the vegetable changes every 30 seconds, and is repeated every 6 seconds. Preparing at any crate causes the player to continuously prepare the vegetables in 1.8-second intervals. Each portion of 75 vegetables (must have 25 of all three types) added to the cauldron will grant the player 53 spooky tokens per hand-in, and as many as possible portions are handed in in one action. By following the orders, approximately 3,710 tokens can be collected per hour, while not doing so yields approximately 2,356 tokens per hour.

Plague soup experience[edit | edit source]

Preparing any vegetable crate gives Cooking and Herblore experience scaled to your level in the respective skill.

Doggy bones[edit | edit source]

An activity that is run by Death's dogwalker in the north-eastern part of the Draynor Manor grounds. The Death's dogwalker miniquest must be completed first.

The objective of the activity is to use Muncher's spade to dig around the graveyard area near Death's dogwalker for small and big doggy bones for treats for Muncher. The spade gives off heat messages indicating the distance to the location of the bones: "Ice Cold." (more than five tiles away), "Cold." (3–4 tiles away), "Hot!" (two tiles away), and 'So close!' (one tile away). Once found, hand the bones to the dogwalker to obtain the reward.

10 spooky tokens are awarded per a set of small bones, and 20 spooky tokens per a set of big bones.

  • The rotten potatoes you pick may be a reference to the item of the same name used by Jagex Moderators.
  • The item Death gives you to track soul fragments resembles the shard from the 2018 Halloween event.
  • The option to talk to prepared potatoes is available, where you will ask a question and receive no response, as it is a potato.
    • When saying "It must be difficult being a potato." Sometimes you will get a response of "Please don't put me in the cauldron." You will respond with "What!?", but then receive no more responses, as it is a potato.
  • The Mocking Ghost's opening dialogue "Well, well, well, what do we have here? Oh, it's one of those cute living people." Is a spin on the beginning lyrics of Oogie Boogie's Song from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.
